tlminh Just as an FYI for anyone installing the db651 into a 2012 JKU soundbar

1. Regarding the soundbar baffles that come with the speakers, or the baffles that are included with crutchfield -the holes did not line up correctly with the stock location. Easy fix, on the baffle, I just drilled another hole 1mm from the original hole on one of the tabs

Also, the screws that came with the speaker to attach the grill were either too short (did not hold grill to speaker to baffle) or too long (would drill into the actual soundbar). Fixed by finding shorter screws

Regarding sound - I installed one side speaker and was able to compared stock with db651. The polks sound richer and do not give off a flat echo-ish sound.

Good buy

panthermark Anyone have pics of a DB651 installed? And will it fit the front as well?

I'm talking the DB651, NOT the DB651s.

Here is a great link (which also links to a ton of pics) on the difference between the two.

I would prefer the non slim version as they get down to 35hz.

I would love to do DB6501's all the way around....but that would require a bit more drilling than I'm willing to do on a brand new vehicle.

Thanks...

mboyda Finally got them installed. Way better than stock. Muddled midrange from stock is much clearer. Had my 11yo kid choose when I had one in and stock she definitely noticed the Polk without prompt.

While base is better than stock its still not blow you away. Was hoping for more as I'm taking the useless sub-woofer out when I put Tuffy enclosure in soon. Its livable & a jeep & will be topless most of summer.

Install mistakes:
Saw dash was pain and was busy with work. Against my better judgment had local Audio shop install fronts for $65. They said it was first jeep and next jeep they do they will charge more cause it was a pain. So I pick it up and notice vibration in passenger side front. Instead of taking it back, take it out myself today. One screw stripped and 1/4" out, no speaker gasket, crappy crimps and exposed wire from stripping 1". Hopefully driver side holds ups considering crappy job they did. Also can see where they pried trim (Audio Sensation, Exton PA) Did rears myself.

Lesson learned do it yourself next time.

judofish Not to derail and I know the topic is Polk Audio replacement but I just have to share that I finalized my Addictive Audio instal with the components up front, coaxials in the sports bar and an enclosed 12" sub powered thru a dedicated sub amp and BOOM-This jeep sounds awesome.

Wondering the same thing.

I soldered mine also, I cant stand loose connections.
The light blue is positive on the RH speaker and the black with white tracer is positive on the LH speaker in the sound bar.

worked perfectly...i just cut the end of the speaker wire near the white connector and stripped the insulation off the wire and crimped those suckers right on. damn, what a nice improvement in sound quality.

I believe I've seen references to that here on the forums before.
Admittedly I didn't do much homework on this purchase, instead going for the good name and recommendations online.

The DB652Ss that I installed sound great, but you make me wonder how much better it might be by matching up the impedances??

Mine were not Infinity. To date; All I have done is replace soundbar speakers, and they dramatically increased performance with poly fil.
02-10-2012 10:44 AM
judofish I replaced all four of the factory speakers and the component tweeters with Addictive Audio units and we filled the dash boxes and sports bar with dense sound matting. The sound is so much better than stock. The AA Exeutia8 subs and custom box are next.

New2012JEEP Yep, mine crimped on really good, and were very right around speaker. I actually had the Polks for 2 weeks without polyfil, and they sounded okay. When I put poly fil in, those speakers jammed!
02-10-2012 09:55 AM
vacca foeda people say that with the factory headunit set up for 2 ohm replacing speakers with 4 ohm will effectively halve your output, but won't cause any issues. i've only replaced the rollbar speakers (with the polk dxi's and stuffed with poly fil) but found that the new speakers are actually louder than the factory. this could be due to the polyfil, not sure because i did both at the same time, but at the end of the day, i'm really happy with my polks and don't regret not using 2 ohm speakers.

Without sounding too stupid. What's the difference? Will the polls work and what benefit of 2amps speakers? Are those in same price range?
02-08-2012 01:12 PM
Snailpower I ordered the 2 ohm 62.9 - they have a 95 db sensitivity. Not here yet, but should have them in by the weekend if I can get it out of the dealership....
