Wrangler2003 When the 4.0 develops a major problem this is on my things to list. I've done some research, Cummins 3.3 or 3.9. The 2.8 from the liberty.
The 3.9 is just a touch heavy and tall. My preferred choice is the 3.3. I found a forum somewhere where someone had swapped the 3.3 into their YJ or TJ don't remember now and was getting 32 or so MPG. After some performance mods and tweaking tires etc.. Was getting around 28 MPG.
Just like the 3.9 parts are easier to find the engine is a little cheaper

Vermonter Ive seen a kit you can buy to put a VW Jetta Diesel into a YJ. Im sure you could find it with a quick Google search.

1BadAssJeep The om617 is supposed to be a good motor. Its gonna be my DD. I don't do to much trail riding, I like to keep my things nice. The 4bt (3.9 cummins) is the ideal motor but it's way more expensive compared to the old Mercedes diesel.

JeepAddOns-Chris Plan on taking it on the trail or are you planning or keeping her on the street? For daily driver never seeing a trail, great engine with the MPG and how long they last. For the trail, not enough in low RPM's to do anything with it.

DaisyCutter My biggest concern is whether it would pass an emission test. Say, if you put a 1985 Mercedes diesel into a 1995 Wrangler, it would probably be a no go.

The ideal diesel would be hard to find. You've got to find the right combination of performance, weight, and reliability. Most of the good ones are in heavy duty trucks, and just too heavy to be practical IMO. Most of the mewer ones are too complex. The good little ones from outside the USA could be an emissions nightmare.

Diesel swap

I'm thinking about doing a diesel swap on my jeep. I see a lot of old diesel Mercedes online for cheap. I can a good running one for about 1-2k. I would also need to buy a ax-15 tranny and adapter. Has anyone done this and where there any problems you come across?
