bulletsforbreakfast Yeah man! Used to have a 94 Dakota ( same stuff) where that trick worked. Unfortunately, I can't get my hands on it till the weekend. Doing a tranny in a mazda tribute (wife's car) at the moment, so she has my TJ till saturday. Thanks!

s3nt3nc3d Depending on the year of your Jeep... turn your ignition on (don't start it), off, on, off, on...and leave it on the 3rd time. Certain years this trick doesn't work...but most years it'll display your trouble code in the odometer/tripometer display followed by "done."

bulletsforbreakfast Not sure of exact code number, gotta scan it myself. Wife was driving it and had it scanned at an auto zone. Weekend is comin' though.

Jma20a I had a few codes at once and all were for the gas cap. Got a gas cap at auto zone and problem solved.

bulletsforbreakfast, what code are you getting exactly? I've been living with a P0455 for a while now. Smoke tested the Jeep and found no leak...replaced gas cap with an OEM replacement, replaced leak detection pump, checked all lines...nothing. Removed code with a scan comes back in a day or two. Talk about annoying...hasn't hurt my gas mileage though so I've just left the light burning for about a year now. lol

bulletsforbreakfast Never did I expect it to fix itself bro! What I was looking for was a glitch of sorts that could cause this. The fuel cap appears good so I was looking towards something else. Any experienced jeep owner can tell you that they tend to be "quirky" at times. Thanks for the evap info however, that should be helpfull.

nwbronco Also, take a clean cloth and wipe down the ring on the gas cap and the outer ring of the cap seat.

s3nt3nc3d Did you replace your fuel cap....?

If no, then stop expecting the problem to fix itself and replace the fuel cap. If yes, examine your evap lines for any obvious cracks that could cause an evap leak. If you can't find any, you may need to have your Jeep smoke tested. They'll pump smoke into the evap system and it'll leak out wherever your evap leak is.

fuel cap check engine light

Can't get check engine light to go off!!! Scanned it and found it to be "faulty gas cap" error. Unhooked battery over night and it went away till the next time I fuel. Any help out there? Thank you.
