topcat1214 Thanks denisbaldwin & DrHolliday for replying! I thought that price was very high! I was only looking at local repair shops because I thought that the dealer would be too expensive so I was surprised at the quotes I was getting! Thanks DrHolliday for the offer and for letting me know about the Autozone price! My daughter has some friends who work on cars all the time and I just found out they replaced an alternator a couple of weeks ago so I'm going to get them to replace it for much cheaper!

DrHolliday Autozone has one for $125 plus a $52 core charge. You get the core back when you bring the old one in.

DrHolliday I'd look into the cost of parts and install it your self. Where are you located? If not too far I could give you a hand installing it to save you a ton on labor.

denisbaldwin You can get a Green Mean alternator for that! You should be able to get a nice aftermarket one that performs at OEM specs for about half that if you can do the work yourself. Is this at a dealership? or some local mechanic?

Alternator Problems

Hello - I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, 4 cylinder engine, that is needing a new alternator. I was quoted a price at @ $425-$450 from several auto repair places. This seems very high to me. Anyone else had a alternator replaced recently for a cheaper price?? Or is this estimate correct?? Do want to pay too much but I want to get my baby fixed!!
