marketvending ARB locker stayed locked all night. Now that's a tight seal.

SirGeorgeKillian From someone with an ARB rear and lockright front, in 4wheel, my turning radius sucks. However, it is easy to drop from 4 to 2 and flip my rear locker off. But when I dig in to 4wheel locked, I feel near unstoppable. Well, until I hit permafrost......

XJ Knight thats is perfectly fine for the majority of offroad situations you will be in and not a unpopular set up.. I have a friend who runs the 8.8 with lsd rear and a arb in the front.. he's very happy

whY402Jay Someone told me that the LSD in m 8.8 will act as a drop-in and that I should only put a selectable in the front. Feedback, please.

Plumber1 Well I started wanting an OBA system so I installed a York Compressor and tank. This type of OBA takes up NO space in the jeep and no tanks to keep getting refilled. When I decided to get a rear locker the ARB was the answer, since I all ready had air and I wanted a selectable locker it was a no brainer. After having it in for 2 years I wanted a front ARB. They have been in for a few years now with ZERO problems.

banks316 I rarely use mine, I like the challenge of doing trails open. Almost did the whole Rubicon Trail unlocked. Had to lock up the rear twice, never used the front.

Yep. Last weekend while wheeling on tight terrain I unlocked the front (ARB front/rear... LOVE them) several times in order to accommodate a smaller turning radius. I'd have been pretty frustrated with an auto locker in front.

Yes you can, you will also need the inner axle seal from the same year you pull the shaft out.

Not at all. That was in two wheel drive.

If you in 2wd and the auto locker is up front you should only notice a chirp here and there when turning.. other then that it should be like it's never there

banks316 My D30 has 30spline molly shafts Eton E locker and 4.56 gears running 37's. Ive pounded that front end on rocks and its not had one hic up. Im adding a Stak 4x4 3 speed mini monster tcase. Im not sure if the D30 size R&P can handle the 5.22:1 low range.
02-04-2012 07:52 AM
marketvending Getting the case ready for the new ARB. Having the spreader made a huge difference in putting the carrier in and out while shiming. I rented the tool for 20 bucks

Mitchness The HPD30 in the YJs is the same as the XJs except for the CAD. Other than that they're pretty much identical. There is some arguing over the strength of the CAD housing-to-tube connection, but as far as the shaft, ring, pinion, hub, knuckle, etc. go they're all the same.

Wouldn't bother with swapping the fronts unless you're going to one tons.
If the HP in the YJ is anything like what they used to put in cherokees, Id say they are in the same category as a TJ D44. The only difference between a TJ D44 and a TJ D30 is the size of the ring and pinion...which typically isnt the first thing to go on you when it comes to these axles. The front 44 isnt really any big deal, if it was, more TJ guys would probably decide to swap it in rather than swapping in the cherokee HP30 which is a pretty popular swap.
02-01-2012 04:04 PM
whY402Jay Wow, the kits I've already searched comes with a locker. I'll have to look into this.

Thank you very much. I'll have to look into that.

whY402Jay Sweet. I found someone selling TJ 44s but I'm not sure if he would separate them. So I'm wondering if I should just keep the HP30 and lock it.

You'll be fine with the 27 spline axles. Especially with no wheeling oppurtunities.
