Got it. In that case, at least keep in mind that the gearing of the new auto is different than the old 4 speed. You shouldn't need as "steep" (numerically high) gears with the '12 auto as previous autos.

You're already running a 32 if you have a Sahara. Swap the stock tires out for some Rubi takeoffs (same size) and with the BLD you will go just about anywhere you would want to take a brand new vehicle.

I have a 2012 Sahara 3.21s/Auto that I am very happy with. Most of my daily driving is 70mph, and the 3.21s are perfect for that speed. I wanted 35" tires for the look, but members quickly talked me out of them. At this point, I am just trying to learn as much as I can about Wranglers, so that when the time comes, I can make an informed decision.

Not sure what your specific situation is, but I think the decision whether to get a Sport or Rubi often comes down to whether the 4.10's are going to be sufficient for whatever tire size you intend to run. If not, you are regearing either way so may as well get the Sport and possibly install lockers when you regear.

So one is looking for about 4.5K for both. I wonder what the value of the entire OEM axle set is. The problem with re-gearing (and I've experienced this when re-gearing my sports cars) is that it is SUCH a sensitive and specialized job, that most shops are simply not qualified to do them.

seanpholman JT's Parts and Accessories can also build complete axles, using Mopar D44 housing and ship them as a bolt-on unit. Not cheap, but makes for an easy swap.

NFRs2000NYC I actually think that due to the Wrangler's excellent residual value, it might make sense later on to trade in for a 4.10 Rubicon. The money I lose will be almost the same. If you factor in wear and tear, I might actually come out on top.

Agreed. Again, I only suggest it so as to stagger install costs, not to turn it into a permanent 2wd.

No. Think of what the expense would be for shipping your axles.

GREEN-MACHINE 1- yeas you have to regear both front and rear axles, if you do not you will cause major damage to your drive line, because the wheels front and rear will not be turning at the same speeds.


2 core exchange, yes you can remove the axles ,,,, but thats a major job, its best and cheaper to have a shop do it while the axles are still in the jeep. prices range anywhere from 1500 to 3k for a regear

3- yes 2012 can be regeared, although you will need a pro-cal or other tuner to let the ecu know what you have done, this will fix your tranny shift points and your spedo will work correctly.

Noob Question on Re-gearing

Just out of curiosity, I have a few regear questions. I'm new to Jeeps, so please bare with me....

1) When you re-gear, do you need to do both the front AND rear diffs, or just rear only?

2) Most of the time, is it a core exchange thing? Like you buy a D44 with 4.88s in it, then ship back your OEM D44 for a core exchange? If so, anyone you know online that does this?

3)Can the 2012's with auto's be re-geared yet?
