Babino Yes it was. It's amazing how many people stop me now and want to know more about the color and ask why I would go with flat black? And I just say why not.

freeskier Looks good, you'll be happy with the PPG single stage. Was it the omni line?
02-21-2012 12:51 PM
Babino Glad you guys like it. And yes there was a hardener that was added.
02-21-2012 12:30 PM
ipleadda2nd Nice! A single stage paint sounds like a good idea for flat, instead of a matte clear or something.

Finally someone painting with quality paint and a spray gun. After spraying with a gun, there's no going back to rattle cans. The spray pattern from a gun is far superior.

Was there a hardener/catalyst you had to add to the paint before spraying?

Babino And yes the original color was black. There was really nothing wrong with the stock paint just wanted a little change

Babino The brand is PPG I think.

baerbonesjones super clean , and for the price i rather do real car paint , then plati dip of rhino line, i would just have to buy a spray gun for my compresser but i want one any way, what brand of paint was that? ill have to go to one of my local paint shops
02-20-2012 01:19 PM
Rpkittle Yeah, you did a great job. Was the original color black?

chop110 Man! That looks nice. I am waiting on better weather to repaint my grille. It has been cold and rainy here in Houston for the last few weekends.

Babino I'll post more pics probably tomorrow, it's just a 1 stage paint, no clear needed. The paint itself is just called flat black. At least that's what the lady told me at the shop. I scuffed the body up real good just to make sure it went on really well but from what i heard it will stick to damn near anything.

HunterTJ01 Looks good. I want to see more pics though

baerbonesjones that awsome , but did you prime, or clear it? how many coats? you should throw some more pics up, whats the paint ? satin or flat black jet black ?
02-18-2012 07:10 PM
Babino It's car paint. Just went to the local auto body place and picked up a gallon for about 75 bucks, but only used about 1/4 of it. Then I just had a buddy of mine prep it and spray it for me. I'm going to pay him 100 bucks. So with all the materials and everything it only ran me about 200 dollars, not bad I'd say.

baerbonesjones clean paint what did you use? spray paint or car paint , give some details ill be painting my jeep very soon
02-18-2012 06:59 PM
Crazyflyingplastics Looks good! I like the flat black. and you can find the jeep decals all over ebay for pretty cheap prices
02-18-2012 06:36 PM
Babino Well here it is.
02-16-2012 01:30 AM
Babino I like your ideas. Nice jeep too. Thanks for the help
02-16-2012 01:14 AM
Owen_TJ You could always tape off the jeep center caps and paint them more of a matte silver then go with a silver jeep could also get a silver 'zombie outbreak" sticker and place it centered above your jeep decal...heres a rough idea of my red jeep with silver sticker.

black and silver always looks good together lol...hers my black/silver R6 before i painted it

Babino I have the stock jeep rims but I already painted them black, but I did leave the jeep logo on the center cap aluminum to match the luge nuts, they actually look pretty good. As for trim pieces everything is already black but the center of the dash which is grey. I have the rocky mountain edition so the seats that I have are two tone black and grey with jeep embroidered on the headrest which is also black.
02-16-2012 12:56 AM
Owen_TJ Yeah, i was thinkin that too but i dunno

what color are your rims? Do you have white letters in or out? any colored trim pieces inside?
02-16-2012 12:54 AM
Babino Yeah I never thought about it being raised like that. Good point. Maybe a gloss black jeep decal would be a good fit there
02-16-2012 12:52 AM
Owen_TJ i'd purchase new ones since the "jeep" is raised so to me it would look "not complete"

not sure what color i'd go with though to match a flat black...

Painting this weekend

Hey guys, I decided to go ahead and paint my Jeep after seeing my buddies truck, I'm going with flat black. I already primed the hood and got it all wet sanded, my only question for you guys is have any of you painted your jeeps? And if so did you replace the decals that were on yours? I'm having a hard time deciding if I should leave them off and go with the clean look or find a website to purchase new ones. I'll post pics when it's all done. Thanks.
