The Sport S is on a slighter higher level for capability than the previous generation. The JK does lose a bit of tight trail maneuverability, but gains much more upgrade capability. It can bolt on larger tires in a stock form than the TJ or YJ could. The wider axle stance is better for stability as well.
The Sahara I ordered has stock tires in the same size I had on my LJ last year at 32". Even then the TJ/LJ required a very small body or suspension lift to accommodate that size.
The JK is much more electrical and much more daily life pleasing. It gained a lot of capability at the same time.
