Wiring Harness

i'm building a stroker out of 4.0, to go into 87 yj question is:
i'd like to run latest 4.0, w/ direct ignition, ram style intake manifold and so on. but that was only in later tj. how do i make dash wiring harness compatible. or should i just go with later yj, is wiring and computer from a later yj 4.0 gonna more or less plug into 87 dash harness?
i can make it all work under hood no problem, just curious about dash harness, if i remember right, engine harness plugs into dash harness.
