As long as the bumpstops limit the axle uptravel before the shocks bottom out, the lift height just determines how much uptravel vs downtravel you have.
Stock shocks are:
Front: ~13" compressed length
Rear: ~12.25" compressed length
If you buy a shock that has longer compressed length that these, you'll need increase the bumpstop extensions by the difference (which reduces uptravel).
2" lift OME shocks are part numbers are N66 and N67.
N66's have a 13.5" compressed length - which is the very max you can fit in the stock mounts, so they will fit without extending the bumpstops.
N67's have a 13.5" compressed length - in the rear, this means you need a minimum of 1.25" bumpstop extensions. Thats from 13.5"-12.25" = 1.25"
So, if you don't have any lift at all...you would need to lose 1.25" uptravel in the rear to run the OME N67 rear shocks.
On the flip side, if you add a 2" spring lift, you actually gain 0.75" uptravel over stock.
If you add a spacer lift (budget boost), you don't gain any uptravel because you need to install bumpstop extensions the same length as the spacers, because the spacers reduce the amount of space the spring has to compress into.
So, if you're not installing a lift, then stick with stock length shocks. Bilstein "HD" 4600 series is an example.

I started with just 2" spacers, nothing else and then put on 31's (wish I went 33's, but that's another story) So basically I got the spacers so I could fit the 31's and not have them rub with the slightest flex off-road. Then i got a winch and it weighed the whole front end down an inch or two. So, after some forum research I bought 3" lift springs just for the front. The added weight of the winch cancels out that extra inch of lift in the springs. Then more recently I got 2" lift shocks. So now I basically have a complete kit minus the rear shocks which still have the spacers.
However, with that said, I definitely wish I had just bought a 2" lift with springs and shocks in the first place. I would actually have saved money and been better off. But at the time I wasn't willing to drop the cash especially since I was about to spend about $1200 for 5 km2's

|orange05tj||Also, I only run a 3/4" spacer in the rear and a 1.5" spacer in the front on Rubicon springs if that matters to you.|

|orange05tj||I just received my Bilstein shocks today for 0" lift. I haven't installed them yet but by looking at the quality of them, I believe I made a great choice.|

Coil spacers are real cheap. Heck new coils are cheap. Then just upgrade part by part when you have the money.
I would start with coils. While you have them off, setup your bump stop and measure the distance between the shock mounts. Get the longest shock that has a collapsed length less than your measurement. If you know your going to get bigger tires setup your bumpstops for that tire size and measure the shocks for that tire size. Then you can add control arms, track bars, sway bars, and so on and so forth.
Or just buy a cheap lift and replace the shocks with the OME. Will probably be cheaper in the long run.

|InfernoGirl||You can buy stand alone shocks, but you'd want them to be the correct length for the springs you have now, not longer for down the road... If I'm not mistaken. Too long shocks wouldn't work properly I don't think. They'd just be compressed all the time, and not absorb anything much.|

Buying new shocks, nothing else.
hey is it possible to buy shocks like OME and put them on the tj just for a better ride? the shocks are 2 inch lift, would i have to buy coils aswell? Im just looking for a better ride. my reasoning for this would be if i have the shocks , then down the road i can add coils ETC. or is this not how it works?
