They have not made the Scout in 32 years. I picked up a Scout Dana 300
for $300 great find as I have a Jeep T18.

I considered the swap but decided to stay with my t5. I know that a t5 will not run behind a v8 and its a miracle it has ran behind mine. But I like overdrive and I have a spare. Plus I love the dana 300 over the dana 20.

|Cj7otr||Yup, at least $500 for adaptors. I figure since my T176 is light duty and has had synchronizer issues for years, it was time to upgrade. I figure if I can get a heavy duty, granny low gearbox in the jeep for under $1,000 I'm happy. It's not my daily driver so I can work on the tranny as I can afford it. Although, I'm thinking my 4wd low gear may get little use with the low gears of this new tranny combined with my 4:1 t-case reduction.|

A Texas-pattern D300 was used ONLY on the 1980 IH Scout II.
I haven't seen one for sale for less than $750 in many years; usually they are into the 4-digit range on the rare occasion you can find one for sale...
The T150 bell will work, plenty of info out on the web on that. If the Ford T18 you have uses a 6.5" input shaft, you may not need to swap input shafts.

I just thought about it and your dana 300 will not bolt up to the t18 without a expensive adapater from advanced adapters (I think about $500).
Ive heard dana 300's from some scouts will work but are expensive and rare.

I considered doing a t18 swap in my cj.
I believe you can modify/use a t150 bellhousing for the t18. Also gonna need a new input shaft that partsmike sells. Or at least I was going to have to on the waggy t18 I found.
I don't know how long the t18 is compared to the t176 but probably will have to modify the d-shafts.

I currently have an '80 CJ7 with a 304, T-176, and Dana 300 (with 4:1 low gear conversion), wide track axles/lockers with 3.54 gears. I use my jeep both on highway and trails, but it's not my DD.
I have a rebuilt Ford T-18 with the low 6.32:1 first gear that I can get for a couple hundred bucks. I know there are adaptors I would need, but I wanted to see if anyone had issues/experience installing the T-18 or if there are other issues I'm overlooking (clutch, bell housing, drive shaft lengths, etc..). Thanks
