2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport [w/videos]
2012 Jeep Wrangler [w/video]

RBURROWS After watching that video I may need to get a second Wrangler I love being impractical.

He's spot on about the new interior, it's 10x nicer than the old one, and I have owned both. The new engine is 10x better as well IMO.
The part about it's good attributes was, in my (and many others) opinion(s), was downplayed almost to the point of slander. "Had some trouble getting traction on rocks" is a completely unqualified, unfair statement, especially when coupled with the atrocious driving in the video. "Nothing happens when you turn the steering wheel" is a gross over statement; when critiquing a truck, one should treat it like a truck.

For a truck, a Wrangler handles great, doesn't ride too badly, is responsive, and handles extremely well off road. When talking about the "SUV Class," it's actually an SUV, and *not* a car that is just trying to be big, like most other SUVs on the market.

In this instance, pandering to the "average consumer" is tantamount to slander. The average consumer is wrong!

It's heavy, it's crude, its fit/finish is mediocre, it's "slow", it's loud, it's not economical, it's not particularly comfortable, it doesn't ride particularly well on tarmac, BUT, it is STILL the best off road vehicle one can buy from a dealership in the world. Those of you/us that accept that, understand that, and we bought it for a SPECIAL purpose, whether it is to "look" tough, to "think" tough, or to enjoy offroading. If we didn't understand that, we would literally be idiots.

Let me ask you guys something, if you have to review a Lotus Elise (I don't know if you have ever been in one, but if not, look at some pics online, especially the interior) and COULD NOT use the handling as a plus point, how well do you think the car would rate on your scale?

Megafriday CR would probably rate the Lotus lower than a Wrangler based on ingress and egress alone. That, and the fact they love, I mean LOVE Camrys and don't value unique autos. Bottom line is that they know their audience and as someone already stated most eloquently, they look at vehicles like appliances.

I didn't agree with the review either but you didn't even menton the review in that post.
you are right, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'm not going to turn this into an argument, but clearly you did not see where that was heading with my original post.

I already got into this topic on a Subaru forum with a Consumers Report fan boy. After the Samurai debacle, CR should have been shut down. They may or may not be paid off for reviews, but they definitely play favorites and skew results. Call the Wrangler a terrible on road car, fine I get that. But to question its off road capability with that ridiculous driving up a rocky hill? Pathetic...
^ thanks - what a joke. if they would have drove like they did in the wrangler, things would have been falling off...

themoneypit Now this is what I call brand loyalty, never heard anyone defend a crv. Speak on my brothers, let us march upon consumer reports headquarters and crawl upon their front steps in our jeeps, we will be heard!

Despite all that, I'd love to see the same exact "test' with one of their other suvs.

FreezerJeep It's kinda funny cause when I was looking for a new vehicle I talked to my brother in law who has only owned toyota and who has a subscription to CR. he was showing me its poor ratings and bla bla bla. I bought an arctic JKU and took it over there for him to see. He basically said he's not listening to CR anymore. He wants to get rid of his '94 4-runner now and get one.

Totally ad hominem attack on my part, but, heck, he insulted my Jeep first....

My opinion of the steering/handling/ride is the exact opposite of his. Guess I'm the fool.... but a happy fool!
X 10! This douche probably didn't like his schwinn bike as a kid because it's rack wasn't big enough for his bookbag

N39-W120 One thing he said taht is true... "You are basically pushing a brick through the air" Anyway I bet these smucks would complain that the roof on a motorcycle leaks in the rain.

radtype Watching the video brought a tear to my eye and I wanted to go out and buy a second Wrangler. Who wants dull and boring - my wife has a Prius and after a few miles in her car, I long for a fun drive in the Jeep.

mslandsurveyor The night before we pulled the trigger on The Freezer, my Dad called me up in a dead panic and told me all about how horrible the JKU rated in CR.

I responded..."Dad, do you remeber how The Bullet felt/looked in some of those respects when we took you and mom to the beach, top off, this past summer?"......."Well, yes. It was fun and very nice looking! Why do you ask?"......"Because, Dad, that is how the Arctic is but better!".

He still did not buy it, as he wanted us to buy thier '07 Pilot. In the end, I said the Pilot is not a Jeep. We are not getting the Pilot. Sorry, Dad! Still love you, but both of our boys are perfect for our family.
