2xs the 89 I just sold used Dexron.
A/T filter service takes 5 quarts.

New stuff (OBD2 and newer) takes ATF+4, which is synthetic.

Nubby55 The OLD M.R.279 Workshop Manual, Says Dexron II , 17.0 pints. That 17 is for a dry rebuilt or new Trany, you prob. need 4-6 for filter change.

87 YJ Wrangler, 4.2, auto tranny
What ATF does this tranny use?
Chiltons says Dexron II but I hear some people say other.
Also, what is the fluid capacity?
