lee indy 5 to 4.5 is the backspacing you want to stay under the factory fender. Closer to 5 is best. Or stock with 1.5 spacers

I read through pretty much this entire thread and didn't see anything related to my question. I know what will fit, I just want to know what will fit AND not stick out 2 inches from the fenders which it looks like a majority of the 33s on aftermarket wheels stick out a ton.

EFD330 If you go back to the first page or two in this thread it'll explain backspace tire size and all pertinent measurements so you can study up and order with confidence

Thanks for that. So you're running stock wheels? I prefer not to run spacers so I guess the stock size would be the best bet if I stay with the stock wheels. If I go aftermarket I'm guessing something with 1.5inch less back spacing would work?

285/70/17 Duratracs

I had 285/70/17 Duratracs installed (today!) on AEV Savegres. Stock suspension. Granted the Savegres have 5.2" backspacing, but fit is all-around perfect. Just need a slight trim on the air dam (right side was fine but left side seemed to catch at full turn reverse with sway bar released). These photos are at full flex.

Iffer Just purchased a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, and I am wondering the same thing. I will not be getting a lift kit for another 5 years or so but at some point I will be putting in a leveling kit as I hate the way it leans forward But for now I'd like to get some bigger and wider tires on there. I don't want to have to do a whole lot so I just want to know what size would work well without rubbing or anything

jrtubb I had to add four washers on the right side to stop rubbing, two on the left did the trick, but I added the same on both sides to keep it the same. I also added some blue loctite to the bolt because I didn't want it backing out on my wife. There was still +1/2" thread going into the lower arm, these are pretty long bolts.

2014 JKU Rubicon

I just replace my Stock Wheels and Tires with 17x8 Black Rock viper Wheels with a 4.5 inch BS and P285/70R17 Nitto Terra Grappler Tires. No Lift and No Rubbing

jrtubb 18 vs 17 or even 16 rims means for the same size tire diameter (33", 34", 35") you are reducing the sidewall which means less give for bumps.

I'd say YES, but the chances of rubbing should be very very slight if any, imho.

Go with 17x8 with +10 offset, this is the same as the ALL the AEV wheels. I got 17x8 with +6 offset on my Fuel Anza wheels as that was the closest I could get to +10.

Golden Boy based on the op's (1st page)

I can run 285/70/17 duratrecs
on the 17" x 8 offset 10mm rim above (4.69 backspace if i did maths correctly)

with a slight chance of rubbing only on full lock off road which can be easily overcome with a set of spidertraks spacers down the road..

is that correct?

Can anyone advise me on a set up with these conditions;


2012 sahara 4 door unlimited (stock)
for no rub on or off road
as big as poss.
stock suspension
so spacers etc

using one of these XD811 Rockstar II rims;
17" x 8 offset 10mm
17" x 8 offset 35mm
17" x 9 offset -12mm
18" x 9 offset 0mm
18" x 9 offset 30mm

then that rim with what duratrec tire...what combo am I looking at?
I am re-reading all the posts and am still thoroughly confused.

Golden Boy I thought the stock sahara rims are 18?


18 x 7.5 according to the spec sheet I found online....
but yeah just looked at tire size and they 18" rims.

would going up to 18" x 9 create that big of a difference in ride?

jrtubb I'd listen to those with 18" too, they seem to have been there done that. I've read many times about ride being pretty harsh with bigger 18". If you are changing rims anyway I'd go with 16".

I'm not sure what stock offset is, backspacing is more important to reduce if you are going for a bigger tire. Offset adds to this number some, but I'm not sure if it really matters. When I looked at getting rims, backspacing and lug spacing was all I looked at. In the end the 285 look good on my stock 17", the rubbing is pretty minor and only when I hold it hard on the stops left or right.

I put 295/65/18 duratracs on 7031 procomp rims, and they fit with no lift. As I remember, I think they were 4.75 backspacing. You'd have to convert that to offset to compare with your figures. One word of caution, they road terrible. In that size, they are an e rated tire, with a short sidewall. I ran them at 28psi to get a decent ride. The Jeep still felt a little squirly. I'd go smaller rim, lighter tire by my experience.

jrtubb I have a correction, I do have rubbing at full left and right steering in the parking lot. I'll be doing the washer fix for the steering stops soon.

jrtubb Did you try plugging in the numbers of the stock rim to the new rims too visually see what the differences do to tire position. It helped me.

to put on a set of the XD811 Rockstar II 's
they offer to offsets;
18" x 9 offset-0mm
18" x 9 offset-30mm

Thanks for the help and info!

Thanks to this thread I have Nitto Terra grappler 285/70/17 installed on my wife's stock 07 JK with no issues! The ride is very nice, better then the horrible Goodyear tires we have been putting up with.

Most definitely will give a stiffer ride, even with reduced tire pressure, as strongly recommended due to the light weight of our 2-door! When looking at larger size tires it's difficult finding C load range and theoretically for our vehicle weight would be a B.

For me it came down to 2 choices, GY DuraTrac 315/70R17 - C or MTR 35x12.5R17LT - C. As the MTR is a true 35" and was concerned with the only having 3.73 gears, plus the DuraTrac has a quieter road noise and better snow/ice rating, went with this. These seem to be very popular within jeep forums I've been reading since last year.

These should give a high millage life as there are very lightly loaded, so next tires will most likely be the MTR as I plan to swap the gears before the tires need changing.

just wondering would the load ratings, i.e D and E make such a huge difference to the JK?
I have a 2 Door stock and looking to get the MT AT P3s and people were saying b/c they are rated E, its going to get a little stiff and rough, is this true?? any ideas?
