TJNewbie Dang you're up in the nose bleed seats. I'm almost on the waters edge in Lower Alabama. I'm just now finding places to wheel around here. Well good luck to ya!

BeerMan LugnutAL,

4.10's sounds right for your rig. I am definitely not a 4cyl hater, I'm a TJ LOVER

I was just saying that you might want to get that thing up to 60 or 65 and see if you can actually use 5th gear or if it needs to be re-geared. Re-gear is expensive unless you are a pretty dang good wrencher yourself.

My only question is what gearing they have on the 2.5 you are looking at. If they have stock gearing and 33's it would feel pretty dang under-powered and could possibly have some issues from whatever they used to lift it.
I'm not sure what the gearing is BeerMan. I have a buddy who told me the 2.5's came with 4.10's but i'm not for sure on the one i'm looking at. I will try and see if the tag is on the differential ( i guess that is the only place to look on a jeep?) it seemed to have plenty of pep for having 33's. When i first drove it, i kinda babied it and it seemed slower than Grandma's electric scooter but after making sure the four wheel drive worked, i took off and got in it a little and it had the power to turn those tires. I will probably drive it one more time just to make sure i will be ok with the 2.5

Yep, I am glad you drove a 2.5L as I think the point is that the 2.5L power is not as bad as many people (aka "4.0L fanboys") make it seem on the Internet.

Need Advice before I buy

Hey guys. I need a little advice. Looking to buy my first jeep today and want to put some things before ya'll and see what you think. I had another thread about this but went and looked at the jeep and drove it so i could give u more information. I'm looking at a 98 Jeep Wrangler with the 2.5 and manual. It has 33"s and the body is in fairly decent shape to only have 100500. The price is $6000 but i'm trading a 91 Silverado with over 200000 miles on it so its the truck and $3000 to boot. Does that seem like a good deal? I've been reading and know that the 2.5 is underpowered compared to the 4.0 but this would be for me just something to scoot around town in and do a little off roading. I live in Alabama so there are no mountains to climb. I'm just a little concerned about the 2.5 and if its as reliable as the 4.0. Some good advice is appreciated.

By the way, i looked at some other jeeps and they are priced at around 79000 with more miles. I've only found one 4.0 and it had 180000 miles and was rough and they wanted 7900 for it to. Help!!
