|themoneypit||My wife had a better angle on one of the bolts so I let her tighten it. Then bam, torque wrench slipped off hit her in the nose and broke her nose.|

|themoneypit||I did mine in my garage with jack stands, hand tools, and my wife. Hardest part was the 125ft/lbs torque on the bolts with the jeep on the ground. The rest was pretty straight forward.|

|c0d3x5||no need to disconnect front driveshaft on the 2.5 lift.. just follow their video.. the hardest part is getting the clearance to put in the new springs since you will be sitting on jack stands.. but u can do it|

Thanks everyone. I think I will do it myself. I'm thinking either the Teraflex 2.5 coil lift with Fox shocks or a local shop here has a brand they love, BDS or something like that that comes with stabilizers and a new track bar and Fox shocks for $700, $500 without the track and steering stabilizer.
I've been watching the Teraflex video and it seems easy, but they have all the room in the world with the lift.

6.1. Disconnecting the front drive shaft helps too if you need a bit more clearance.
To the OP, it's not dangerous if you are careful and really not that hard. Just time consuming. Get a buddy to help, pay with beer pizza and it's actually a fun day, plus you feel like you accomplished something.
The important part everyone missed. Get a quote first so you can show the spousal unit how much you saved and have that money to spend on more jeep parts

OP- I am in the same boat as you, while i've never done any suspension work, i spent the last 3 years rebuilding a 1970 chevelle, so i think i'm pretty handy with a wrench. i had the suspension done professionally, but did everything else with my own hands.
check out the teraflex 2.5" coil lift with shock adapters, that's what i'm installing tomorrow on my 2012 jku rubicon. like the poster above said, check out youtube, teraflex has their own channel and an 11 minute video showing the entire install and i must say it seems pretty simple. just time consuming

|c0d3x5||i used 2 normal jack stands that went about 21 "s high.. go to ur local auto parts store and buy the tallest jack stands u can get with in reason.. teraflex has a good you tuber video on how they install their lift, and the essentials pretty much the same for most others (excluding different parts)|

There is no need for a coil spring compressor. I have done multiple lifts and have never used one. Here are the steps:
1. Chock the axle (both wheels) of the axles staying on the gound.
2. Use a floor jack, under the pumpkin to raise the wheels off the ground, as high as the jack will go. Place jackstands under frame.
I cheat. I use a cherry picker...
3. Remove the wheels.
4. Disconnect the brake line from the bracket, as well as the speed sensor wire.
5. Disconnect the shocks.
6. Disconnect the tracbar at the axle. Loosen the bolts securing the control arms.
7. Lower the jack, the axle will drop far enough for the springs to fall out.
7. Then insert new spring, and jack axle up again to remount every thing you removed above. In the reverse order.
NOTE: The last thing you want to do is re-torque the control arm bolts after you get the wheels mounted and the axle back on the ground.

|basecamper||I did my AEV 2" spacer lift in a garage with my brother and I am by no means a mechanic. Make sure your on level ground! Other than that a few specialty tools needed hydraulic jack, jack stands, and a torque wrench. I cannot speak to other kits but the AEV kit has pretty good instructions that you can see online I would check them out and then decide if its for you. Personally I would do it again and although the extra set of hands came in handy I would have no problems doing it alone either|

Coil lift installation difficulty/dangers
I'm considering doing a coil and shock lift, 2-2.5" on my 2012 rubicon unlimited. I've done my own brakes and other small stuff but I've never worked on suspensions before. How difficult will it be to do in my driveway with no access to a lift?
Also, how dangerous is it to do? Is it dangerous when you are compressing the coils or uncompressing the old ones?
I don't want to get stuck with it half done or get hurt. Can I finish it in a day alone?
