Tjmike003 You could always spray some protectant on the tire so the sun won't damage it.

WaterDR No, I meant rotate the tire as in spin it on the tire mount so that the same side is not facing the sun.

But, covered or not, it will dry rot eventually I would imagine.

Buz 1 don't know why it matters what others think... my spare is 2" narrower than the rest & has severe sun damage. i'd like to cover it 4 that reason.. those that choose to rotate instead, have the funds to purchase 5 tires at a time to do so. if i find a spare matching rim before i re-tire i would do the same... otherwise,,, it's a 'Buckeyes cover, & i'll paint the top to match the flares....

Mr_RPM do you guys feel like I could go no cover if the spare tire does not match but the rim does?
Im running 31'' discoverer ATR with black steel d window rims and my spare is a 31" wrangler MTR (not the new Kevlar but the last style before) with matching rim.

dmule3 should rotate all 5
03-04-2012 01:29 PM
WaterDR So just rotate it.

Arch Stanton I just replaced the dealer OEM cover with one from Amazon for $30. It's insulated with the Jeep logo and made in the U.S.A. The cover helps the spare from getting sun rot out here in AZ.

SippiTJ I have one on my 33 that has my favorite college logo on it. Not for protection or anything just purely because I am a huge fan.

billybobjoe Personally I don run one, but I have to admit I like the Life is Good tire cover with the Wrangler on it: All Things Jeep - Spare Tire Covers for your Jeep: Life is Good, Camo, military, tie dye, "Jeep Thing" wheel covers + more!

Hmm, never thought of that. Is that a factor?

TJNewbie Mine came with a cover, so I use it, just to keep the spare protected from the sun.

Mudweiser Agreed. If the rim matches, show it off. If it doesn't hide it. Course if its 3 sizes smaller then the rest of the tires...theres prolly no helping it
03-03-2012 05:50 PM
Westbrook Here's what I've got and I love it, even with my nice Apex rims. It'll be gone once the new tires and rims are on though ...partially because it won't fit on a 33

Jake_Spence Personally, I feel like if the spare matches the other four wheels then it looks better without.

Spare tire: cover or no cover?

I happen to think my spare tire/wheel combo is pretty good looking as is. Wondering if there are any covers that would look even better.
