BTW, I don't lock my Jeep with the soft top on. Learned that lesson long ago when someone cut into the convertible top to steal my cassette tapes.

I think I am going to use high temp flat black paint that they use on BBQ pits and such. I have been thinking of doing my antenna and muffler.

Powder coating is easy and lots of fun. It's a lot easier and cheaper than you think to DIY.

edit: if you don't have access to a blaster, just scratch up the fuel door bolts up pretty good and clean them...then rattle can them.

spudley After my old man emu steering stabiliser install yesterday (steering wheel was off center), found that it triggered the anti-skid system code and stopped it from working.

Found a handy youtube video about adjusting the drag-link so got out in the snow and mud to adjust that and had to disconnect battery to clear the code. Steering wheel is back to center, the code is clear and everything functions great.

I have a bit of a write-up on this on my blog at vagabondexpedition.com

You can tell whoever traded it in just had it for looks and didn't go off road because he could have used it in his new rig, or sold it on Craigslist.

That's an awesome find. Have fun.

To get your steering wheel centered is a breeze. The hardest part is not having a helper to let you know when it's centered.

I go in the office and tell my co-workers about the stupid thing I did. Whipped out my AAA card ready to call. Then one of my co-workers says: 'Wait, don't you have a soft top? Can't you just unzip that thing?'. <LIGHT BULB MOMENT!> I put the AAA card back in my wallet. At the parking lot, I unzip the rear passenger side window. I still can't reach the keys on the passenger seat from the outside though. The lock mechanism is also out of reach to unlock. A small co-worker volunteers to squeeze in through the small side opening and grabs the key. Whew! Lesson learned! Yay for zippered windows I guess? hehe
My TJ was a soft top, I never locked the doors. I figured a "nice" criminal would unzip my windows. I had a steel security glove box and a security drawer under my seat. Anything of value over $10 went in there. Had things stolen out of my jeep 3 times in 3 years, nothing I cared about ones I installed those though

ltsrapcon Drove it 2300 miles from PA to UT through mostly snow packed and icy roads. From Springfield MO to Amarillo TX it was a skating rink. Everything from big rigs to smart cars were in the ditches. Went several miles that had a seimi in the ditch every hundred yards or so. The only Jeep I saw in the ditch was a TJ pulling a 12ft uhual trailer, and it looked like he was about to drive it out. I would have stopped to help him but I was loaded to the rafters with stuff and another 500lbs on one of those hitch racks. I was way overweight, headlights pointing up, and still got 19mpg for the entire trip. stock tires and 3.21s. Kudos to all the Jeep drivers out there who kept it between the lines and for those who couldnt I hope you get to upgrade rather than just repair.
