The order of importance of which bits of armor to attach to my Jeep was determined by observing the first things that got whacked the first few times I went wheeling when my Jeep was stock.
The very first things that got bashed RIGHT AWAY (and over and over again) were the front lower control arm mounts. Next up was the front diff. Next was the rear shock mounts and lower rear control arm mounts, then the rear diff.
For me anyway, this is the order of importance:
1. Front control arm skids (Skid Row)
2. HD diff covers (Riddler)
3. Rear control arm skids with integrated shock mounts (Synergy)
4. Rear differential rock slider (AEV)
5. Oil pan (Rancho)
6. Evap skid (Rusty's Off Road)
7. Mopar Rubicon Rock Rails

something else I don't see mentioned and must be considered is that the Unlimited 4 dr. weighs more than the 2 dr. off the lot and has the same engine rating etc.
My factory springs on the 09 Rub Unltd. collapsed on the way to The Racetrack in Death Valley. I was sitting on the bumpstops. Even after the tent and camp gear were unloaded. Irt was the first outing with both Fr. and Rear Rockhard 4X4 full width bumpers ,Warn Powerplant winch and ARB rooftop Tent plus camp gear,people,dogs.....

you dont want diff skids. new covers maybe but thats further down the list

first priority should be fixing things jeep screwed up.
1. evap relocate. the 12s^ come with a pot metal skid that will keep road debri from jacking it up but will not hold up to a rock. the best thing ive seen lately is the 50 dollar relocate kit that jeepswag is selling now. moves it above your rear axle.
2. oil pan / transmission / cross member. if you have an auto this is arguably more important. the manual has less exposed crap. the auto has a transmission cooler line and a plastic fulid pan so very important that they get skidded up.

i like the 3 piece design and the full coverage on the cross member. mine was beat up pretty bad. and would have been alot worse after this last trip.
other alternatives include the reasonably priced rockhard skids, purejeep, M.O,R,E. skids, JCR, and the more expensive kits like the river raider, polly performance, synergy. pick a budget and ill help you find the best skids in it.
3. lower control arms. get the weld in type i can tack them in for ya. very important
a LCA skid ties the two sides together and keeps this from happening. you should see the scars in mine that might have been trailer time for me had i not welded them up
4. diff covers. no need for skids they rob clearance. better covers will keep the lip from peeling open on a rock and leaking. solid is the cheapest set you can get and very good. next step up in price is riddler after that its all pocket book
5. after that replace things as they get mangled. the Tcase skid is pretty damn sout. but the gas tank skid isnt. most of the after market ones go around it. the one i want is the poly as its a full replacement. ive lost about a gallon of capacity from beating on mine. i think what i may do is pound it out and put a piece of plate over top of it
some where in there when you feel your getting a little more agressive off road you need to loose the plastic side steps and get something thats frame mounted. ask V and Michael about the damage those things will cause when they hit. i take them off now and craigslist them before they get damaged and put that money towards something that will take a hit. ie ACE rails JCR even the ****tybilt rails will stand up better than those. dont get the ones dale got tho. those damn things rob you of so much clearance its pointless.
at a minimum i would find some rubi rails or get the smittybilt rubi rail look alikes.

You can't beat the price, nobody even comes close. I also have their front LCA skids, Riddler front diff cover, PSC rear diff cover. The factory diff covers get easily peeled of by rocks. Seen it happen a few times.
Plus relocate the steering stabilizer before you break it. $30 or so for the relocation bracket, closer to $100 if you break it. It's one of the most common things to get smashed in it's factory location.
Do you have a 2012? If not, you need to skid the evap or relocate it.

That kit looks sort of like the RR set I have. I doubt an evap skid would be a problem.

I have a 07 JKUX, Factory Skids on the gas tank and transfer case.
I drive logging roads, graveled, some dirt cat and skid roads mostly when off the pavement.
Occasionally there are big rocks and limbs in the road so I gotta keep my eyes open.
I recently installed a Poison Spider Evap. Skid . A good solid unit.
Next will be maybe a Oil pan skid , Front Diff. cover in case I hit a big rock in the road.
And Radiator tank Armor....
Stuff like big rocks and chunks of wood like to hide in the snow.....Get to day dreamin and cruising in the snow and WAM!! Must have hit a Rock or a piece of Fire Wood...

So I am also a little lost in this skid kit debate. I am wanted to get fully protected before I start wheeling. I may stay stock height for a bit now and stock up on armor. I have Poison Spyder Brawlers Rockers on the way. I have an arctec truss kit waiting in the garage. So now I have been looking and TNT customs complete belly armor .Jeep Wrangler JK 4 Door Unlimited : Modular Bellypan : Skid Plate : T&T Customs
Does anyone have any feedback. Would would I sitll want or need out of this kit? If I am changing my own oil, one of those fumoto valves seem handy. Will those work with this kit? Can I add the poison spyder or river raider evap protection next with this or would it interfere?
What about LCA skids. It seems some waht to remount the shock location. It this wise to do before I know exactly what lift I will be running? What about the front protection for a rubi? Would a new bumper and matchin skid protect that area, or will I still want some else.?
Any help, I am a mess here!

If you go "HOG WILD", with the skids, the added weight (300/600lbs, it'll affect a 2dr more than a 4dr and then your diff. ratios gonna really count--
My JKUR weighs 5200lbs +, what I add for trips and my mileage is still ok, even towing my trailer, power on demand !!

|steve31||Not to pull this thread too far off topic, but is armor one of those you get what you pay for things? I am looking at sliders and they run anywhere from $250-$800. I'm not doing real heavy off roading, but the sliders would help for what I am going to do. They I was planning to add just a couple of skid plates where needed based on this thread. I just want to do some light armor when when I do run trails with some rocks, I'll never crawl (I say that now). I just dont want to waste a ton of money on something I dont need, but at the same time dont want to go cheap and end up having to replace things first time I hit a rock.|

"Also available with replaceable UHMW*(Ultra-high molecular weight)*Polyethylene panels specially designed for sliding over rocks." has anyone tried these? Seems like it should be lighter then metal. Any opinions? I don't do much rock crawling more of a expedition rig. Want some extra protection with as little whieght as possible. Also anyone tried alluminum vs steel?|

I play a lot in rocks.
IMO I would do the evap first, its very vulnerable in the stock location.
Next would be engine and trans. Though I've never had rocks hit the engine or trans, they would cause a big mess and leave you stranded.
The stock T-case and gas tank skids seemed to work well enough, though I replaced them as well.
The next thing I'll be addressing is the lower control arm mounts. The have been taking a beating and I feel they need something more to protect them.
I'm a big fan of the River Raider Off Road skids b/c they make the bottom of the jeep smooth from skid to skid and are very tough. I like them being mounted flush with each other b/c it will allow you to rid on the skid plates over rocks without a rock getting hung up on an edge.
Then differential covers. Its easier to steer to avoid hitting the diffs on rocks, so I'm saving them for last when I regear.
