sk8er I sort of have the same problem with my 95, all my lights work except when i hit the brakes. the third light works but the brake lights do nothing. i have driving lights, blinkers, and hazzards but no brake lights. i have checked the fuse and replaced the fuse under the driver side. anyone have any ideas. I need to get my baby inspected.

autogyver when they started using third brake lights is when the 4ways were not overrun by the brake lights, the third brake light lights up while the 2 lower lights still flash. I do state inspections in N.C. and there was even a bulletin that explained this, tell the inspector to look back at his requirements.... good luck

Erm, thats always bugged me about the newer style of hazards overriding brake lights, as opposed to the older style of brakes overriding hazards - In New York State, for example, if you're traveling 20 mph or more under the speed limit for whatever reason, its a law that you're supposed to use your hazard lights, particularly on expressways and ESPECIALLY on the Thruway. So then, if you're doing that and want to stop or slow down more, no one can tell because all they see are hazards, but no indication that your brakes are on and therefore slowing down.

JeepCommandoja recently i noticed that my break lights are not working but my tail lights are still functioning; i check the fuse and the lights but both are fine; i was looking at the connection to the break pedal but it seems to be ok; anyone had this problem?

jbone03 I'm actually from CT but I'm currently living in germany. When I was registering for WF It asked for my location but only included the U.S. Guess they didn't know there are Jeep owners worldwide.

I see from your profile that you are in Connecticut. Why did you have to go through inspection, did the Jeep come from out of state? In CT you don't usually need to go through inspection unless the vehicle is 25 years old or from out of state or has a salvage title.
Which DMV branch did you go to? Sometimes the inspectors don't know there a$$ from a hole in the ground, especially at the branch offices. I have always had better luck going to the main DMV office in Wethersfield.

The only thing I can think of is the break lights don't cancle out the 4 way flashers when the breaks are applied. Are they supposed to? Also the high mount works fine either way. Am I missing something? Please help.
Welcome! Congragulation on your "new" Jeep. I'm pretty sure thats how they work. MY 01 does the same thing. I think most cars are like this now, but I do remember years ago the brake lights would cancel the 4 ways. Your good to go.
