AtcoTrailsINC Here is how i see this situation.

If you didn't already own a wrangler I would say go for the ruby since is seems you can swing that extra cash. But since you already own a TJ why not consider instead upgrading what you already have for far less cash? Another thing is yes we would all love to have that Rubicon badge on our hood but how many who have it really need it? I see far too many Rubicons that do not much more than the occasional trek to the mall and back and i cant help but wonder why they went with the Rubicon.

Something to consider:

Rubicons have dana 44's f/r with lockers and a 4:1 transfer case. Other then that there really is not much difference between it and your TJ. Of course this is ruling out a 4 vs 6 cylinder comparison and gearing.

Before i babble on for way too long (already have haha) keep this in mind. You could drop in a ford 8.8 with a locker for a good price and build up your dana 30 with a locker for far less then if you swap your tj for a tj rubi. That setup should be more then enough for the average wheeler.

Now if you want an LJ, well heck go for it lol

spd322 Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback. I'm still trying to decide. I guess I need to stop agonizing over this and make a decision! If I buy the Rubi, I'll be sure to post some pics!

I feel the same way about mine, in fact I'm already planning a V8 engine swap which is, in all likelihood, several years away. It is indeed A JEEP THING

I bought mine new off of the dealership lot in '03, and everyday that I drive my Rubicon, I love it as much as when I first bought it.

burton160w It's up to you, personally I'd just look for a Sport or an X. The beefier axles are a nice feature, but it's nothing that an 8.8 and a front HP can't fix. the 4:1 TC is up to you. I don't necessarily need it for what I do in NJ, and I'm guessing Georgia doesn't have too many rock parks.

UsedRubi Bought an '06 Rubi on December 31. Love it! Goes everywhere and does whatever you want it to. Buy it and you'll be happy.

Larry Rasco just have bought 04 rubi and I love it go for it you will not be dissapointed

Wralph I traded my 97 Sport for my current 2004 Rubicon, which is kind of close to your situation mate.
I do not regret it one bit, although the 97 sport was a much more modified Jeep. You jump up a couple of years, benefit from lockers, get rid of the conventional spark plugs setup and get that beautiful transfer case. Personally, I felt that the 2004 is a much more refined machine with better sound insulation and a less crude interior.

mcw402 I would love to trade my 01 SE for an 04-06 LJ Rubi......there just not to common around here

Jonny15 Doesnt get any better than a tj rubi, best jeep ever made in my opinion. I love my 06 rubi. Get one you wont be dissapointed!

Pros:
D44's front and rear
Lockers front and rear
4:1 t-case
Fixed yoke output on the t-case
4.10 gears
Rock rails

Cons:
They're a little pricey but well worth it if you can swing it. Other than that none!

YEAH. RIGHT,,, Be afraid, be skeeered , spare me please.. I hear that same crap every four years from both sides, and guess what, only 1 crash since 1929, and that started before an election cycle.. Oh sorry,,, you must have invested in gold.. what a ponzi game that is.. The big money dudes will continue to drive the price up and up,, then sell off,, leaving you holding the bag, and gold back down to 6 or 7 hundred an ounce... oh wait, if thats not it, then it must be the impending invasion you're afraid of.. SPARE ME YOUR FEAR MONGERING HOGWASH

nmtj I say get the Rubi! It has so many advantages compared an se or any non-rubi wrangler.

spd322 Yeah, the only con I can come up with so far is the payment. My TJ is paid for...I'll have to borrow some money on the new one.

Thinking about trading for a Rubicon

I'm thinking about trading my 99 TJ SE for an 03 Rubicon. Any thoughts? Pros and cons? Any suggestions would be helpful.
