I think the common consensus here is to take overdrive off when driving with larger tires to help the engine. If I go slow enough in O/D I get those vibes too. Stop pussyfootin it and drive.

TJ-JAM Well I've done some research and it seems to be an issue on a lot of automatic TJs..and really there is no fix to it. At this point I'm going with 4.88 gears which was suggested to me by Jerry but I'm really doing it for performance don't really think it's going to take care of the problem

Thats right around the ballpark. I'm not to familiar with the chrysler trans, but on my F-150 the transmission tailshaft rides on 2 brass bushings or bearings, after so many miles they wore out and created a vibration in overdrive similar to what your describing. At this point may have to get a reputable trans shop opinion.

TJ-JAM Yeap vibrations when the over drive kicks in....also they quoted me 1100.00 for parts and labor for the 4.10... Sounds right ...?

jwright7217 I run 4.10s on my 33s. I love it. Its way better than when i had the 3.07s. I do have a 6speed though. Also wasnt that expensive.

I'm running 36s on stock 3.73s, granted I have a manual tranny, but I think he's blowing smoke up your ass to get your money in doing an expensive job like gears.

Im no expert but ive never heard of gears causing a load on your overdrive, if that was the case itd be in ALL your gears ALL the tim....My guess, if it is only there with overdrive, it's probably a tranny issue with the overdrive.

TJ-JAM So anyone think better gears will help the vibe..? Is it true since I'm running stock gears when it goes into over drive it's putting too much load on the gears causing it to create vibes....?

TJ-JAM Ok when to another jeep shop they told me my angle is fine ... That I should consider gears since I'm running 33 on stock gears he told me to go with 4.88
He says what's happening is that when the jeep goes into over drive it creates a load on the gears..? We tested it when it started the vibration took the over drive off and it went away

HarryJeepGuy This ^ . And just my opinion from the less than ideal pictures, I think your pinion is pointing too high. Get a good (better) angle finder if needed, but I bet you end up shortening your adjustable upper control arms.

Imped I've alreay told you exactly what to do and where to measure from. Use some common sense combined with my advice and fix it. Double check that your rear output yoke nut is torqued down.

TJ-JAM So I got my shaft back it was out of balance got it balanced properly. Came back home slapped it back in hoping for the best since got the DAMN vibes more like a humming. So this is all I've done new bearings in the complete rear end re-balanced drive shaft. Tried and aligned the differential strengthening ribs to the middle of the drive shaft VIBES....I've used an angle finder I've been at 14-15* at shaft and pinion VIBES

Ok the crazy part I said the hell with it I tried aligning it by eye I got 14* at the shaft and 20* at the pinion (which I measured from the top of the pinion because I had to angle finders one at shaft one on pinion and didn't fit)
It got better abit just abit less VIBES....how can that be......???.?

Can you thing else be wrong......? I have rough country adjustable upper control arms can they be damaged ..?

Will it help if I guess lower adjustable .....?

Then I also took it to a local jeep shop the guy made it seem the vibes are soooo bad I've seen jeeps come here with the doors shaking......THANKS DROVE OFF...!!!!!

I appreciate what all you guys have suggested and for your time trust me I want this to END already too..!

Tomorrow I'm going back and mess with the angle again

TJ-JAM Well just an update I dropped of the drive shaft to get checked out to see if it's out of balance....just wanted to get the doubt out of head...

Contrary to popular belief, pinion angle isn't 'that' picky. If he's off by a degree or two he won't have vibes from that. If that was the case, you'd get vibes all the time when driving since your suspension's cycle changes the pinion angle by small amounts. But, if the pinion angle is high by 2 degrees at rest and the pinion rises another 2 degrees when on the throttle due to bushing deflection, he may get vibes. Hence why I said to lower it to -1 or -2 degrees and go from there. If you've got quality, solid joints at all ends you wont' experience axle wrap so that's a scenario in which you can set it directly inline with the drive shaft and call it good.

As for the tires--tire wobbles and driveline vibrations are totally different and feel nothing alike. I highly doubt he's mistaking one for the other.

village idiot I think you are spinning your wheels with all this photo stuff. We can't measure your stuff off of photographs. Go back to post #18, do that and be happy. If, after that, you still have vibration, then it's coming from somewhere else.

What angle is the drive shaft at?

Visually it looks OK from my vantage point....but instead of asking us, why don't you determine for yourself if it's OK by answering the above two questions?

Imped I don't get why you're so confused about how to do this......

What about "set the pinion inline with the drive shaft" doesn't make sense?

See the two circles on either side of the diff cover? Those are perpendicular to the pinion. You should be able to figure the rest out.

Jerry Bransford You need to take your pictures standing a little further towards the rear, so the photo isn't taken from the front looking toward the rear. Take the photos standing slightly more toward the rear of the jeep so the camera is looking straight at where the pinion shaft connects to the drivehsaft.

I think it may be...the angle of the pic isn't great so it may be causing some confusion. Ive looked at my ds from 15 different angles and it always looks worse at the angle this pic was taken from.
