PapasJP I also thought about the service contract and turned it down at the dealer as well as Gap Insurance.

When I took my paperwork back to the Credit Union, I had a per-approved check, they offered me a better deal and at over half the cost... I bought it.

Gap Insurance for 7 years = $295

Service Platinum Contract 7 years unlimited miles $100 = $1295

As you can see, I bought it.....

You may want to check your CU and see if they have something like this. Vystar is what i use.

OnOno47 Thank you Utlax18 and Paulie for your reply.

Now I have mix feelings whether I should get it or not. I've been hearing both goods and bads on service contract. People just have different experience on it.

Paulie It's a crapshoot. I have an 05 GC that had a service contract on it when I bought it. Under warranty it needed about $2,000 in work of which $1,700 was covered by the service contract. Since the service contract has expired it has needed another $2,500 in work. Wish I had a longer service contract. It's a first year model though so that probably has something to do with it.

utlax18 Well, here is what I can tell you about my used 07 JK that I bought with 42K miles, I have 56K miles on it now..

1. New water pump at 47K miles - $275
2. Leaking lower intake manifold gasket (getting repaired tomorrow)- $285
3. Leaking yolk at rear drive shaft - (getting repaired tomorrow)- $100
4. Leaking right exhaust manifold at 55K miles - $400

Also, this does not include the weeping transmission lines ($150) replacement. So, in the year I have had my JK, I have spent over $1000. Now, some of the things I mentioned may or may not be covered under your extended warranty. But I am just telling you the repairs I have had to put into my used JK the first year sans routine maint. items.

Good luck!

OnOno47 I made lots of phone calls today.

So i called DaimlerChrysler Customer Assistant center about my warranty.

They said i have Unlimited miles & month for the powertrain.

My Added Care i currently have is 7yrs/60,000. That means that this will expire soon because i'm getting close to my 60,000miles.

I also got a quote from Chrysler Service Contract, The Chrysler Customer Assistant Center transferred me to the Service Contract Sales department.

What they gave me is:
3 Yr. Unlimited Miles: $100 Deductible =$2,315
3 Yr. Unlimited Miles: $200 Deductible =$2,035
4 Yr. Unlimited Miles: $100 Deductible =$2,445
Or
5 Yr. Unlimited Miles: $100 Deductible for $2,445
.

THAT IS SO MUCH DIFFERENCE IN AMOUNTS!

service contracts

hi, make sure to check www.servicecontracts.chrysler.com
it will tell you what is covered and what is not on some of these contracts.
They don't necessarily have to be purchased from your dealer, and I think you can buy from any dealer in the country who sells the chrysler backed warranty. if you do go through your dealer, get some other quotes and negotiate. This is a profit center for somedealers.
03-12-2012 04:04 PM
timinerie It is a good warranty. I bought one when I bought my 07 used last spring. I've been told by a friend who works in auto finance that the markup on those warranties is 100%, so you can probably negotiate the deal significantly as I did. I bought the 5 year plan, but can't remember the price.
03-12-2012 03:40 PM
shrkbyte731 The price the dealer is quoting you for a maximum care warranty is in the ball park of what a customary charge is, as long as you don't have underlying powertrain care warranty. If you do, it should be much cheaper. I have heard it referred to by several people as a "maxicare," which is unusual. Make sure it is indeed a Maximum Care warranty, underwritten by Chrysler Group LLc. There are other companies that use the term maxicare, Chrysler does not. PM me if you have further questions...

OnOno47 Thank you again all for your reply.

But, will it make a different if i say i currently have two years left for the "Added Care"?

Megafriday "peace" of mind
03-12-2012 12:59 PM
Megafriday Save your money. If you want the piece of mind, put your $600-$800 in a savings account so you have it if you need it. Odds are you won't need it for major repairs.

Dealers make a lot of money off these contracts and that scare tactic of a major failure at 60K is crap. I would hope they have more confidence in their products than that.

OnOno47 Thank you jkjeeper06 and Zarkstrife for your reply!

So far, the only problem i had with my JK is that it didn't start at about 40K.

Oh and sorry for my mistake, I believe the service manager said Water pump, Trans and Radiator will start to fail/ have problems at around or after 60,000miles.
03-12-2012 11:41 AM
Zarkstrife Welcome to the forum. Most people here will tell you that its your decision on the service contract. My theory on them is that dealers/Chrysler make money on them, if they didn't they wouldn't sell them. For a service manager to say that the Water pump, Trans and Radiator are going to fail at 60k is crazy. Could it happen, maybe but I bet not at 60k. Have you had any issues with the Jeep so far?

If you do decide to go with a plan, it depends how many miles you drive a year.
03-12-2012 11:41 AM
jkjeeper06 You seem to put on about 12k a year. In 3 years you should be almost at 90k. I think it is a pretty safe bet that at 90k you have not spent more than $3000. It doesn't seem worth it to me at all. There was a thread about what failed when on your jk and I think that would be a good thing to look at. I think that water pump and tranny thing is BS. I'd say you are safe to 100 with no major maintenance

2008 JK, Need "Service contract" opinion

Hello Everyone,

This is my first Thread here at WranglerForum.com

This is my first vehicle. I don't have much knowledge and experience on this.
I need everyone's input on this scenario I am facing. Please help!!!

My 2008 JK, has about 53,000 miles, and so far no major repair done yet.

I bought my Jeep new in 2007, so It's been almost five years now.

I recently receive of a quote from a dealership for MAXICARE.

They offered me is 3YRS UNLIMITED MILES $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE for $2,595.00
Which is $865 a year.

I'm planning to keep my JK for at least 2 Years more, but at the same time I could be keeping her for 5 more years. And who knows, i might keep my Jeep forever!

I've been told by the Service Advisor that Transmission, Radiator, Water pump problems will DEFINITELY occur at around 60,000miles. He also said that this MAXICARE will be worth the investment. Is this true that those problems will occur at around 60,000miles?

So, I asked the dealership for another quote on 5yrs Maxicare to see my other option. I will keep you all posted for the quote i will be receiving soon. I know it will be more expensive but i will get part of the remaining money for the years left on the Service contract once I sold my JK (in 2-5years)

I've been reading a lot about Maxicare Service contract, but it is still hard for me to decide.

Could you please help me with your opinion? Should I go for it? Wait for the 5yrs Maxicare quote?
Anybody have problems with Maxicare? Is it the same as MaxCare?

Thank you i advance for all your help!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: I got another quote from the same dealership

it's 4YRS Unlimited Miles or 5 YRS 70,000Miles
for $3320.00
Which is $830/year for the 4 Yrs Unlimited Miles, and $664/year for the 5Yrs 70,000 miles offer.
