|wanderlust||what is WP?|
|03-17-2012 12:15 AM|
Well, barring something showing up when I am checking things out tomorrow, I'm good to go.
Plan A: Meet at the McD's in WP at 10:00 and head to the trail.
Plan B: Meet at the Hungry Bear in WP at 9:00, have breakfast and then head to the trail.

|wanderlust||Ya, try to avoid the stuff as best I can. I just gets everywhere|
|03-15-2012 10:18 PM|
|Justin04Lj||I'm still finding mud patches here and there.|
|03-15-2012 10:16 PM|
|Oldguy||No, we will be sticking to Wildcat Canyon. FS360 might be a little sloppy but no mudding this time around. Shit, I'm still carrying about 50 pounds of mud from last weekend...|
|03-15-2012 09:55 PM|
|Justin04Lj||Yeah Ed may just take you to the quarter mile long mud pit. I loved it but I remember you don't like mud :-D|
|03-15-2012 09:51 PM|
|Oldguy||Careful what you ask for|
|03-15-2012 09:44 PM|
|03-15-2012 09:38 PM|
|Justin04Lj||Are you going to take it easy on it or just pretend it's not there?|
|03-15-2012 09:32 PM|
|Oldguy||Yeah, but that's the way it goes sometimes. If the pitman arm doesn't solve the problem I'll just say screw it and wait for something to break. That is the only component left so there's nothing more I can do.|
|03-15-2012 09:23 PM|
|Justin04Lj||That sucks man.|
|03-15-2012 09:17 PM|
Shuffle board is looking better and better
Pulled the pitman arm today, output shaft on the gearbox looks fine so at least I shouldn't have to replace that. So next is the pitman arm itself. So I have decided to say screw that until next week. Put the whole mess back together and tomorrow I put tires back on, sorta kinda align it and then switch to the back and suff in the rear spring spacers.
I will be going out this weekend, just not too far. Gulches sound good to me for Sunday. Watcha think Dan, ready to do a rattletrap express?

|wanderlust||the d44 in wranglers is a hybrid axle. JKs need a gear of at least 5:13s to work right with tires over 35. I am still on 4:10s but can really feel the tire size now|
|03-14-2012 11:32 PM|
|Oldguy||Now is that true using a 44 carrier for higher ratios? I have the thick 4.10 gears in my 44 but I didn't think you could go that route above 4.56 for the above reason. I've never really paid any attention to gears above 5:1. That is a big issue for me in planning to build a high pinion D30. 4.56 is the limit there, period. They make 4.88's but the pinion gear is getting too weak to trust. Figuring for 35's 4.56 isn't going to be enough, even with my little banshee engine.|

|wanderlust||the only difference in a jk30 and jk44 is the ring and pinion size. they share from the center section out. The jk44 built up makes the actual pinion teeth the weak link. ratios 5:13, 5:38 the pinion gear is just to small for good gear mesh, making the 60 the only real choice for a jk|
|03-14-2012 10:03 PM|
|Oldguy||Yeah I am interested. Would definitely go that route on my replacement front axle. Forgot that the JK 44 shared components. There was a great pissing contest on Pirate about relative strength of the two axles, centered on the common u-joint.|
|03-14-2012 09:13 PM|
|wanderlust||the jk is has 30 ends with a 44 or the 30.. same stuff.. I can get you some measurements if you want. I am actually wondering myself now|
|03-14-2012 08:57 PM|
Be nice but I'll bet not. I'm going to check every application for a D30 and see if anyone has used anything other than that stupid Y linkage. Not holding much hope though.
On other fronts I found out what is probably wrong with my steering. I explained the whole mess to Harry and he goes "you're not going to like this", so I said "try me". So he tells me that if I pull the pitman arm he's almost positive that I'm going to find twisted splines. He said that he's seen it before and that was always the problem. So I mentioned my little encounter with the ice shelf and he goes "Bingo". I'll let you all know tomorrow after I pull the pitman arm. Oh, well...

|wanderlust||wonder if jk knuckles will fit on a tj?|
|03-14-2012 05:16 PM|
|Oldguy||No kidding, Jeep seemed to have learned quite a bit after 10 years of the TJ.|
|03-14-2012 05:03 PM|
|wanderlust||One of the best things the jk brought was the linkage setup|
|03-14-2012 04:12 PM|
|03-14-2012 03:57 PM|
|wanderlust||Ed, from what you said you are seeing I am kind of stumped at this point as well. Are you a normal Tj set up or did you divorce the draglink and tie rod?|

|topher38||Hey girls how are we all dong. I'm hoping to have the jeep climbing rocks again in about a month. Still have to save up for the new axels then break everything in.|
|03-14-2012 11:21 AM|
So what exactly is your little jeep doing?
