|Dutch 95||There are a bunch of things that this could be, and the easiest way it to have someone sit in the Jeep and lightly turn the wheel back and forth (with the engine off) so you can see everything that is loose. Look at EVERYTHING that moves and look for play/slop at ALL joints.|

I just replaced all my tie rod boots with Polyurethane boots from Pep Boys. Took out a most of the play. The ones on my drag link were especially bad.

This looks like what I used. The only trick is to make sure as you tighten the boot down that the lip of the boot slips down and doesn't get hung up on anything and fold under.

|Dutch 95||When we got our Jeep, it was the same way. I had my wife sit in the Jeep and turn the steering wheel while I watched for slack in the steering components. Ours has 6" of lift also and 33's. Where I found mine was the steering shaft under the hood. There is a tiny u-joint at the end of it that had gone bad. The u-joint isn't replaceable so you need to replace the shaft if it is the problem.|

steering wheel play
my wife and i just bought a 91 yj about a week ago. it has a 6in lift looks like shackles and spring lift front and back. im still pretty new to this so i apologize if i am not describing this properly. my issue is there seems to be several inches of play in the steering wheel before the jeep actually turns, once i am turning its tight. only when im driving strait i seem to have all of this slop.
please help me, i need my wife off my back lol.
