Jerry Bransford Synthetic line is the way to go but make sure it is 3/8" and not 5/16". Synthetic line has all the advantages (safer, lighter, stronger, and far easier to use) over wire rope except for one, that it is more easily damaged if you are forced to winch so the line is running over a sharp edge. So for that reason, the added safety margin of 3/8" is a good idea. That said, I winch quite a bit and have never had a situation where I had to route my synthetic winch line over anything sharp.

jeepwayoflife I have the Engo E9000 and it works great for me. Used it for the first time in a few months of sitting today and ran like it was new

calkid This has been covered in lots of other threads. You may want to do a quick search to find what you're looking for. Bottom line is, you need to weigh you're needs against quality and weather you explore by yourself or with another rig with a winch. You should never Jeep alone but expect the un-expected.

winch

was wondering what which you guys run, a dealer named chris is having a shoot out and its a 10000lb winch (engo?) for 305 shipped.
is that the best price for a winch ill find? why is synthetic a better option? with a fair lead and synthetic line i think it came to about 400. might go with the 9000lb one though for 289.
was wondering for advice on a winch, synthetic vs wire. thanks in advance
