richp X5 on the XJ's, that was the best jeep jeep ever built for daily usage for what it cost new. We did get a 97ZJ back in october and so far we're liking it, same drivetrain as the XJ except for the tranny, I wish it had an AW4. My daughter is using my 98XJ down in philly for security reasons and TJ's suit me fine up here in the country. I'd like a new 4 door wrangler but will probably look for an TJ type unlimited early 2000's, I haul too much network equipment, routers, switches and such for the TJ to be really practical.

jpdocdave i bought my wife a new minivan in 06, our first new car. too many problems already, and i can't stand the direction new cars are going in, and emissions is gonna be able to track your car by satellite, and you'll get a message to get your car fixed or you lose license, becuase the government will know when your check engine light goes on. not joking. i will not buy another new vehicle. i wish i bought another xj for my wife like i have. regular maintenance, and it goes forever. we had two xj's before, and i wish i had them again. these new cars are not so impressive.

debruins well my guess would be the people that buy TJ's and the newer YJ's buy them because either they like them better than the JK's or they don't think the JK's are worth the extra 10K, I dont see why people buy new haha, i can go on Craigslist and buy a JK with 15,000 miles on it and save almost 4,000-8,000 on it

Dare2BSquare I'll let someone else take the big hit of value dropping as soon as it drives off the lot. I would much rather have a broken in vehicle with a lot of the bugs worked out under warranty that someone else paid for. As long as I know or can tell that it has been maintained properly, I would prefer to buy a "previously owned" vehicle.

I even bought my wife's BMW that was a courtesy car at the dealership. It had 11k on it when I bought it from the dealer.

soupy1957 "Money" is the big factor for most folks. Especially when prioritizing.

Yet I notice the desire to rebuild classics, so I wondered if the percentage of folks buying "used" were into rebuilding, or if they just had a cash-flow issue.

I'm a stringed-instrument player, for example, and I've been playing for fourty years. I tend to buy "new" and try to buy at cheaper costs. Yet, there are those who buy "used" for other reasons.

Just throwing the thought out there, to see if I could get a grip on how many buy to rebuild, -vs- those who buy used because of a particular affinity for a particular model.

dj_chizzle interesting point. i bought mine used, first used car i have ever bought (my first 2 were brand new off the lot). this is the first vehicle that i fully intend on keeping until i run it into the ground. while i probably could have afforded a new JK, i wanted the longer body of the unlimited but definitely did not want the 4 door.

scotiez I think most of the people who say they bought a new jeep actually mean it's new to them. I still consider my jeep as new since its new to me, and i'm still learning on it. It's a very exciting purchase, and just want to tell someone or show it off. I have had many vehicles in my life time so far, and every time i get something different it's new to me and exciting. I for one usually can not afford something brand new ( i probably would afford one if most of my money didn't get put right back into my house.) so most of my vehicles are used.

Buying "used" again?

I see a number of threads in here, where someone says, "just bought a new Jeep," when in fact, they have bought "used."

Other than buying say, a 41 Willys, or (I wonder if there are any Bantam's out there still?) a 42 - 45 model Willys, which is understandable, because you happen to be a person (like me) who appreciates refurbishing or restoring a vehicle to its original condition, what's stopping you from buying "new?"

Most of the "used" vehicles that I see people buying, are much newer than the old old ones.
