richp Forgot something, check your gas cap, if it's not on right and tight [~4 clicks] it will trigger a CEL.

richp The base hobby shop should have a scanner or while you are at Auto zone spring for the $50 or so and pick one up, one that can reset codes, not just a reader. In fact your motor pool should have them for the staff cars. It just plugs in under the dash, by your left leg. Looks like an old LPT printer port.

Oh thanks! I'll take it there to have them check it. I would rather not pay like a couple hundred dollars for the dealership give me the chicken and / or the egg story.

Thanks for your help!

erickpl The CEL can be any one of a number of things, but it tends to be focussed on emissions issues. I'd recommend taking it to an AutoZone and having them scan the OBDII code to determine the problem. I had mine come on and they scanned it. I KNEW the problem, but they confirmed that it was the throttle position sensor. I swapped a new one in in about 10 minutes.

Check Engine Light

Hey Everyone,

I was driving to base the other day and I noticed that during my trip the check engine light came on in my 04' TJ Sport. It has about 63,000 miles on it. I have an extended warranty to 70k which is great. Has anyone else experienced something like this before?

I know on my father's 07' Grand Cherokee the check engine / service light comes on when it is time for routine maintenance. You know the way the dealership tries to get you to spend more money? Yeah that way!

If anyone could shed some light on this grand mystery please let me know!
