1.0 Just to put some closure to my original question and in case other newbies like me are experiencing the same issue (sorry it's the teacher in me)...

I took my Rubi to the dealer and had them check the clutch noise. The tech was great. He had me drive and he listened. The verdict... normal clutch noise. He explained the whole mechanical process that's going on and put my mind at ease. Sure I feel like a goofball, but at least I know there's nothing wrong and I can rest easy now.

1.0 In my case the noise is minor. I can live with it if it's normal and there's nothing wrong with the transmission. Thanks for the info.

JCS05Rubi The older TJ rubicons have the same problem with the 6spd. Creaking noise when pushing down and releasing, and sometimes a ticking/marble noise at idle in neutral like the old 5spds. Sometimes even both. There is a TSB for a bandaid, but the noise will just come back. All the dealers in my area don't even want to mess with it, because it won't solve anything. They said they would love the extra work, but ill be with out a vehicle for a few days and the noise will just come back.

Anyway, Im not sure if this is the same 6spd from the TJs, but if it is, its going to be a noisey tranny.

1.0 Thanks for the feedback folks. I asked my bro-in-law to take a look at it (he knows way more about that kind of thing than I do) and he thinks it's just normal noise caused by the linkage. He mentioned it might just need to break in but some noise is to be expected. I'm thinking I will still have the dealership take a quick look just for peace of mind.

NH Jeep I've got 600 miles on mine and the clutch makes a squeaking noise on release. I figure it just needs to break in, but if it continues, I'll be talking with service. Clutches are funny things and I've found on the 4 std vehicles I've had, they've all been different.

1.0 Brand new 08 Rubicon straight from the dealership. 220 on her miles last I checked.

jpdocdave welcome, what year jeep, engine size, and trans, and mileage? you say new wrangler, is it brand new or new to you? if it has some miles on it, if it makes noise when you put clutch in that's usually throw out bearing if i remember right, might as well do the whole deal then, clutch and all.

Clutch Question

Hi All,

Ok, a newbie question here... it's been about 20 years since I've driven a clutch and I thought it would be fun to go back to one, so I got a stick with my new wrangler. I've been having a blast shifting gears again, but I've noticed a slight noise when I push in the clutch and shift gears. It's very subtle, and doesn't happen all the time, but I'm wondering if this is normal. Thanks.
