DirtyRob I drive mine everywhere i want to go with the rear welded. it isn't bad, jusr something to get use to. If you plan to replace it then go for it. Just remember it is there and you will be fine. As far as welding the front, the steering doesn't like it and can do some expensive damage. It just isn't worth it

CharTay Just a thought in the front as long as he's in 2wd the front shouldn't bark due to the 3 axel setup? Am. Completely wrong or is that right?

gmcnutt13 I dont Drive it to much on the street i would say about once a week. But i was just curious if this is going to raise my chance of breaking an axel since i know the D35 are already pretty weak. I will baby it on the street forsure. Just looking for a cheap easy fix before i put the 8.8 in.

Definitely not a good idea for a DD as was already stated differentials are meant to allow the tires to spin at independent speeds while turning.. A fully locked or welded rear will bind up causing undue stress and wear on all parts.. The front will also bind and cause loss of control

DirtyRob I weld all of mine on the rear Dana 35 but not the front. I have done it for people that had the "posi-lock" so they could move the fork over to "un-lock" the front, but it doesn't work as good as an open diff on the street. I would get a Lockrite in the front. They are easy to install.
Welding the rear is not good for a heavy-footed driver in turns. Especially on gravel roads, and loose dirt.
Some drive without a swaybar to me that is unsafe, and the welded rear is fine to me, but to each their own.
BTW I always use 6011 rods as (contrary to what others say) they burn in better, and have never had anything break loose

Master4th If its a daily driver I wouldn't suggest it.

Driving on the road with a welded front can cuase you to snow plow on turns, becuase 1 wheel is suppose to be moving faster than the other you lose traction and just keep going forward instead of turning.

Back axles can kick sometimes but not as big of a safety risk. If you do decide to weld the rear, do yourself a favor and fill that thing up. Little welds in the spider gears just don't hold up to abuse. Last thing you want is a broken chunk of weld flyng around inside your diff.

Another question for you guys. I have a 8.8 rear end i am going to put in my jeep anyways. But i was thinking about welding the spider gears for now on my D35 or the Front D30. Is this a horrible idea? I know the D35 is weak in general but i am tired of my buddy with his damn Rubicon showing off. And would you just weld the front or back or both?? Thanks for any input.
