White foam is a sign of water, but there are several ways for moisture to get into the crankcase. If you are concerned about a blown head gasket, test it with this.
Combustion Leak Tester
It tests your coolant (while in the radiator still) for combustion gases (CO2, etc) which are indicative of a blown HG. If you use this, make sure you follow the directions exactly.
I'd drive it for a while and see what happened, or drain my oil and check for moisture in it.

|beardown||Couldn't you see the antifreeze comming out at the cap? And the level of antifreeze is a bit low, and the white, and in your 80 cj did you ever fix it, did it just go away, o what? One of these days I'll change out the antifreeze and inspect it for oil,|

|daggo66||I had this same problem years ago in my 80 CJ7. It had the 258 which was the daddy of the 4.0. I never did find out what caused it. I was checking this thread hoping to find out.|

Sounds more like condensation from short drives. As long as the oil stays clean and the antifreeze level doesn't drop, and doesn't show oil in it, you'll probably be OK. Just keep on top of it... check both weekly (should do that anyhow).
On dropping antifreeze level... I had that happen on my 2000 4.0 -- the radiator level kept getting low (never a lot, maybe a pint's worth) while the overflow tank kept filling up. Problem was a leaky radiator cap. When the thing heated and pressured up, it forced coolant into the tank, but when it cooled off, the air was easier to suck than the antifreeze. Cost me some anxious head-scratching, but ultimately a $6 radiator cap cured it.

|Jkrgv||It's probably a real small leak and condensation is collecting at the very top where the cap is. There is a chemical test at radiator cap to tell if combustion gas is mixing|

JUST DRIVE IT ! Your engine has Condensation inside from Normal sitting . You engine HAS to run long enough to get hot and stay hot enough to cook off this condensation. 3 miles to work and a low speed is'nt going to do that.... It's time for a an extended road trip to warm things up and cook off the moisture.
Your oil is fine...Just needs to warm up. Might want to do this once a week til the weather changes and the temps come up..... DEW POINT (????? ) Over my head....

|beardown||Ha sounds good! Usually don't go out alone, but buddies def don't have the gear to pull me out and 2000$ tow fee would make me very sad! So u think I should just check it once in a while? Not leakin, not smokin, not smelling, just white foam at oil cap!|

|beardown||Good (not head g) only reason i thought that was cause I googled white foam oil and that came up more thn a few times! I def haven't driven it more thn 4 miles at a time all winter, (and mountains of colo are very dry) , as it warms I'll drive it further, just dont wanna be on trail with an exploded engine in the middle of summer|

I heard a lot of good things about the high mileage stuff and find it hard to find negatives about it! But..... Don't want the engine to explode either!!! What u guys think?|

|absolutescottie||my liberty did this. its just the moisture from the short trips and not letting the engine warm up enough. As long as you maintain regular oil changes I wouldn't worry it, it's definitely a head gasket, you'd know it then|

|beardown||No smoke, no smell. The past few oil changes I did use the high mileage oil, but that's it... I did have a few bolts shake loose from tranny mount which caused a few u joints to fail but don't think that could lead to the latest concern.... Right?|

OP....if you're really concerned, contact these guys: Blackstone Labs
and have them ship you a container for a Used Oil Analysis. IIRC it's like $22 for a very thorough UOA and you'll know for sure if there's any coolant in that oil...or any other unwanted things for that matter. Just be sure to run your engine for a good while (20 mile drive or so) to heat it up and burn off any excess fuel in the oil before you obtain an aliquot.

I'd say change the PCV valve and wait see if it helps. if you have not done it then it's due anyway. cheap part

|beardown||Dipstick oil is perfect! Don't notice any antifreeze in oil but is the white foam a sign of antifreeze getting in to the oil? Confused, engine performance is good, no odd smells, just hope this isn't the sign of a bigger problem..... But as always, it probably is! Ha|

|beardown||Yea I work 3 or so miles from home so def only do short drives, and I live in Breckenridge co, very dry and cold..... Opposite of humidity! Ha... Changed the oil last week and it was there, checked again today and it's back! Hmmmmmm|
