superdavis78 I think I got lucky in the damage department. It just put a dent in the plastic of the bumper....if I would have stubby'd it up before, there might have been more damage. I need to invest in a bumper, but I want a Trektop NX too....

jsmithtx I have hit deer in south Texas and they are always hauling ass across the road. There is no time to react. Sold my truck with the brush guard. Now I'll hit another one. Then I'll get another brush guard for this one.

LOL, that's ok. I got a 1/4" metal plate sitting behind that license plate to help out there too.

Deer can hear a twig snap in the woods from 200 yards away... the problem isn't auditory. They are well aware that your 4,000lb chunk of metal and rubber is in the area, they're just too stupid to realize that you're following the same big black path they're standing on.
I absolutely agree with C.L. here but here is another scenario. The deer that are standing on the road aren't the ones coming out of nowhere. Those are the ones that are haulingass thru the woods, pastures or corn fields that simply don't stop and look both ways before they cross the road.

They get most stupid late October, early November. That's when the rut is on.
Remember the teenage years guys? Gals, remember playing hard to get?

AlexRiedel Deer whistles: Internet BMW Riders - Deer Whistles, they don't work!
Equivalent to rubbing snake oil on your bumper... :-)

No doubt.

I was traveling from Abilene to San Angelo when I was in college and hit one doing about 65mph one night. Damn thing was so big I rolled my Bronco II. I didn't yank the wheel or anything, just smacked the deer and it did the rest of the work.

Every vehicle I've had since then gets a brush guard for that reason alone.

I have 2 of these on my jeep for my late night trips thru NH and VT. I got them cuz they were cheap and I think they work. Even if they don't tho it's not like it will attract them

clvnmcd If you have that kind of a deer problem in your area, time to get a nice big stout bumper. At least keep them out of your lap while driving. XHD are good bumpers, so are the Rockhard (love mine). but you are going to need some good springs to hold them up.

Thorshammer7 Thats great!! I've only had 2 beers all year!!!

Hate to hear this but like others have said MOD it!!!!

Insurance told me that the roar of my tires disturbed them and made them move into my path ( there was ab 10 each time i hit one running thru road)

Last I knew in the state of PA, it was just a matter of calling the game warden and they would mail out the permit to keep it. I think the permit was $25.

denisbaldwin When I lived in Michigan, I would hit a deer every winter. The last year I was there, I hit 3 inside of 2 weeks. It sucked. Thankfully, I was driving a Dodge Ram with a big cow catcher on the front so damage was minimal.

southpaw75 Super,

You sound like my friend from NC. She has hit 3 deer with her GC. Her mom got her a front license plate that says "Bambi Slayer" on it.

4Pnuts I had a "two buck van" once. I drive my Jeep slower and, knock wood, haven't pegged one of those big prairie rats with the Jeep... yet. It's amazing how they appear out of nowhere. Unless you've hit one it would be hard to comprehend how quickly it happens. In all I've hit three and each caused over $7,000 in damage. I am a great supporter of hunting to keep populations in check. Their numbers have exploded over the past 10 years.

Yep.

well yea, they are all the standard stubby design. then you can add on bull bar, mid-width, full width, winches, etc to it. you customize the stubby bumper but all the stubby bumpers are the same. check out my thread I just made to see what they look like...this is the bare version with D rings.

rics1997 Hope it doesn't come in two's. lol I hit one almost two months ago. My stubby XHD did a great protection job
03-22-2012 06:29 PM
SolarStar Upgrade to a nice stinger bump; problem solved. Nothing more than a Bambi speed bump from that point forward.
03-22-2012 06:28 PM
PecosRiver Got two to my name, but not with a Jeep. I kill my deer with a Ford F-250.
03-22-2012 06:27 PM
Casotakar1229 get the stubby xhd bumper! and glad you are okay, but good reason to mod the jeep now.

JeeperJake There was a particular road in SW Idaho decades ago I traveled regularly. My then-new VW accounted for 7 pheasants and 1 deer in a 1 year period.

Even then VW windshields weren't exactly free.

The ins co got real tense about my policy claims....
