Keep researching your tire and wheel choices, you will make a much better decision in the long run that you will be happy with.
X2. The man speaks the truth.
Plus I think going less than stock on a Wrangler is illegal in at least 49 states.
Go 33 or go home!!

dodge Well thats the thing, for the forseeable future mine is going to be a DD. So I really just want to improve the look of the jeep and get rid of stock wheels and tires. I dont see a need for a 33 inch tire aside from aesthetics though I admit they look great but for me unecessary.

duratracs

i have been researching the duratracs too for my 04 sport with factory 30s. i have ravine wheels which are cool so i seems to be the way to go driving 70 miles a day. anyway, the 15 inchers are 31x10.50x15 but they are actually 30.5 inches. im not familiar with the jks stock tires but it seems most lt tires are smaller than the advertised size.

dodge Well maybe "the combo" is the way to go. Last thing I want to do is spend money on a smaller tire only to have buyers remorse. But 31" duratrac would still be bigger than the 29" that are on the pathetic stockies.

trowber24 Here is my JK with 265/75/16 Duratracs which are advertised as 31.7" I believe but only measure out to 30.5". If I knew they would measure out a full inch less I probably would have ordered bigger.

Looks good to me. I say go for it and post pics from several angles.

FiveBoro Here you go. http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/tire-size-61284.html

dodge Stock on the base model is 29 so its not smaller.
03-23-2012 09:01 PM
trashbox According to goodyear's website (Wrangler DuraTrac | Goodyear Tires) the following tire is available and should fit...

LT245/75R16 108Q OWL 6.5-8.0 7.00 9.8 30.7 18 2,205@50

The stock tires it would replace:

P225/75R16 104S OWL 6.0-7.5 6.00 8.8 29.3 10 1,984@35

So the 31" duratrac is about 1.5" taller and 1" wider.

I'd like to see how they looked, and it doesn't seem like a completely unreasonable idea.

Ltblue What the!? I'm with wolf, I don't understand why you would want it smaller than the stock. Lol.

trashbox I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Getting 31" (whatever they actually are) DT's with the stock wheels. Then buying some new wheels/lift/etc a few years from now.

If you do get them please post some pics. I'd like to see how they look. The extra 2" sounds like it'd look good without going hardcore. I plan on hitting some trails, but nothing extreme yet....

kbwwolf This thread deals with the largest tire you can run on a stock JK, but there's some useful info in it that should at least give you a foundation on which to base future decisions:

Largest tire on stock JK? Here's your answer!

Like I said, I'm not familiar at all with the 31" size DT, but if it's wider than your stock tires (10"), you may get some rubbing. Best bet would be to look into tires and new wheels with proper backspacing, 4.5" or less.

Gas mileage savings between a 31" DT (about a 30" in reality) and a 33" DT (32") will be pretty minimal.

Didn't even know they made that size, myself. Also, they'd be less than 31", just as most 33's and 35's are less than the advertised #.

Most Jeeps, by the way, come with 32's. Why would you go smaller? It's not gonna significantly improve mileage or anything.

Not saying it's taboo or anything. Just unusual.
