|richp||Kind of a good rule of thumb is if you pull the axles and carrier it's a very good idea to replace all the bearings and seals if it has never been done before or if you have high mileage on it. I know I have to do ball joints on one of my TJ's and while it's apart I'm going to replace the unit bearings as well, they are original and it's a 97. If I don't then sure as god made little green apples one or both of those sobs will go south within a few days of getting it all back together.|

|1BLKJP||No, axle bearings are not part of the "master install" kit for a re-gear. Those consist of new carrier bearings, and inner and outer pinion bearings and all of the shims that you need to setup your axle along with new pinion seals and probably a new crush sleeve for the 30. However your Super 35 kit should've come with new bearings I would assume because you will not be able to re-use the bearings off of your old shafts. For the front there are no bearings per say except for the Unit Bearings. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have whomever you are having do your work what they look like when he pulls the tires and brakes off to see if they should be changed out also. They can get a bit pricey at around 75 to 100 a piece, but bigger tires really do a number on them. Also while they are in the front end it's probably a good idea to replace the inner axle seals since the carrier has to be out to pull them anyway. Those are not very expensive and really shouldn't add any time to your mechanics pricing.|

Jeep has 95k miles on it. I really wish I had the $ to go with ARB but this seemed like the next best thing. I originally purchased the Super 35 kit with a detroit and got the ected for up front. Then I swapped out the detroit for the ected in the rear. Hope that wasn't a bad move, I just did want the noise produced from the detroit.
I wondered if the outer axle bearings were included in the master install kit. Thanks for answering that.
As for the mechanic, my first choice was the local 4x4 shop that does them everyday but they wanted $450 per axle. I had several people refer me to another mechanic who is said to really know what he is doing. He is charging me $200 per axle.

|jpdocdave||outter axle bearings aren't usually part of the master install kit. i'd replace those, and make sure you are using someone who knows what they're doing w/ axles and gears. it is important to do this job right.|

|4.0l sahara||Those lockers are okayand People seem to have probs with them. If you have the money I would go with arb air lockers. But those should be okay.|

TJ going to the shop
First of all, I want to say thanks to everyone who's helped me out and contributed to many of my questions. I purchased a TJ with a 4" lift (w/ 33's and 3.07's) a few months ago and have been reading this site extensively to learn about it. I am going to drop off the Jeep at the shop today to have my first major upgrade done, regearing.
The reason for my post is to get some advise on this process. I have heard that when you regear, it is a good idea to go ahead and replace all bearings in the axles. Is that correct?
Here is what I am doing:
4.88 gears (I am going to 35's)
Lockers (front/ rear)- Auburn Ected
Super 35 kit
C-clip eliminator kit (b/c of the 35 kit I purchased)
Master install kits (front/ rear)
Is there anything else you guys would go ahead and replace at this time? Thanks for sharing your experiences!
