Just get this bumper sticker and put it on your window. It would deter me, thats for sure, and I'm pro-gun.

|cavediverjc||I bought my '05 Jeep in southern California, where it's hard as hell to find a hardtop, but I searched until I did. That helps tons, having a lockable hardtop. Problem is, it's not as handy for impromptu top-down fun. When I bought the Jeep, I paid around $1,000 extra for an alarm. It has the capability to tell when someone's near, when someone's doing something they shouldn't (reaching in), but the best part is that it'll send my phone a text message telling me that someone's messing around with the old girl. She's got a cut-off to the ignition, but if someone is able to bypass that cut-off, it'll send me another text message that the Jeep's been stolen. I can then call the police and log onto the company's website, and find out where the Jeep is via GPS. It was an expensive alarm, but I guess it's worth it. Sometimes I mess around with it just to see if it'll send me a text message. It always does, which leads me to believe it's working just fine. I'm at the computer and WAY too lazy right now to go look in my records to see what the name of the company that makes that alarm. I'll look later today and repost.|

|richp||X2 on the not locking it and leaving nothing in it. Hang some fish hooks under the seats... I've also been tempted to put a pointy steel rod under the front seats so it's right against the seat bottom.|

|cje101cav||I have been looking for guidance on this same question... I have an '07 Wrangler, and through all of the rugged fun, I like the amenity of having my NAV system in the dash w/ the uber-cool harddrive based radio... How is the Viper security system working??|

A big dog make the best alarm system...
Seriously, I keep nothing of value in my YJ and never lock it. Most of the time the top is off in the warmer months. I've had neighbors get their cars broken into but so far in the last nine years I haven't had a problem.

I used to be in the same dilemna - until I installed a car alarm that had a shock + proximity sensor. One of my friends hooked me up with it for about 60 bucks and they're actually real easy to install. I have the proximity sensors set-up so that if you press your face up against one of the door windows to 'peer in' it warning chirps, and the moment your limb reaches in maybe more than 6" the alarm goes off full blast.
There's no way to tell wether this is because of the car alarm - but my Jeep hasn't been broken/cut into since. Of course I've also upgraded to upper glass sliders instead of the soft doors, and a Bestop Halftop that hides the back half of my Jeep as mine is a 2 seater; but I'm happy with the results.

Well I got broken into.....again. I think that #6 in the last 2 years.......well Ive decided to finally get some sort of security system for my Jeep. Im having a Viper 771xv put in on Saturday. Im having a proximity sensor put in with it too. Is there anything else I can do, seeing as how I dont have a garage and I live in the middle of an 85,000+ town? Im especially worried for when I put my soft top and half doors on....I dont want to over do it, but then again I do like my Jeep and I want it, unharmed, for as long as possible.
Oh, I also just bought a hood lock.
