|IrishRed||Panther, I have a factory sub. If there is more than one then I don't know which it is.|

|Mr.Dave||As part of my normal top changing routine, the bent 30amp fuse is in the bag with the top parts. Mine changes when I put it in, and I did so yesterday. People with the two door probably do not have to worry about louder volume. It the unlimiteds that require sound to bounce a longer distance. I have an 07 with premium sound, I exchanged the 4 speakers with the kickers, and changed out my amp with the Nitro amp.|

|Flashgordo||Today I did a little experiment with my stereo. I downloaded a db meter app for my cell phone. Turned my stereo on set volume to 17, went to the back of my jeep, turned db app on placed my phone up on top of rear seat. With the plug still in my hardtop the db meter recorded 82 db's, I then removed the hardtop plug and checked db app, nothing changed app read 82 db's. So I guess it might depend on your year of jeep, mine is a 2011.|

On our 2013 with premium sound it is plenty loud with the hard top off. I experimented with the volume level and cranked it up to 27 as I was driving along one evening. I turned it back down because I was concerned that I'd get pulled over if I turned it up any higher than that.
No jumpers needed to increase the sound needed here.

|Fr8dawg||Great thread as Im starting to think about takin my top off... What a BOGUS thing the geniuses at Chrysler came up with. The stock sound system is impossible to make loud enough to disturb anyone lol! If anything, you need it LOUDER with the top off just to hear it inside the dang jeep!|

I definitely noticed a difference when I put it in mid song like the guy in the video did.

As I posted elsewhere, took the top off two days ago on our 2014 Sahara. The stereo was playing as we did it. (430n and Alpine).
When I pulled the back plug, the stereo got LOUDER, bass stronger, just the opposite of what's been reported. I was really surprised, plugged it back in and the volume dropped. There is no doubt.
I wonder if this is the way it supposed to be, a boost in output with top off. But someone got the wiring wrong and it was only corrected recently, which would explain my results.

Just poly-filled my speakers right after removing the top and I'm 99.9999999999% sure the audio dumbs itself down!

|Paylor||I've heard top off, jumper in, no polyfill sounds even better.|

Just chiming in since someone revived this old thread.
Definitely makes a difference for me.
2013 (Built in May of 2013) Sahara with premium sound system including sub.
Used the fuse method to fix it after testing it plugged/unplugged with the hard top on.

Hard top off!
Used the small 30 fuse on mine today and there was a noticeable difference - factory system with sub...
Thanks for the thread, very helpful!

|IrishRed||I tried it and didn't notice a difference but I have aftermarket speakers. For those who didn't work at all, are ya'll stock or aftermarket"?|

I did a similar setup and it is completely noticeably louder once plugged in.
I just clipped one of the prongs off the connector, it fits right in.
Also used a "goof plug" that is used for home irrigation for the washer fluid line.

Just did this^. I have a 2013 JKU with hardtop. I bought a used soft top and this worked great. I ran the radio, plugged and unplugged the fuse and noticed a definite increase of volume through the subwoofer and sound bar speakers. This forum is awesome!!!!
To whomever thought figured this out...

1 take washer hose and attach washer nozzle purchased at auto store
2 attach nozzle to tub pointing driver side
3 have friend lean on driver side rear tire
4 use rear washer
5 let the water works begin
My glass half full approach.

|Mr.Dave||only reprocussion there is I can't get the hose to stay still, I will activate the wiper and see a blue fountain shooting into the cargo area, but nothing with the wiper. Might just need to clean your connectors.|

|TrailblazinJeep||For those who have used this shortcut to boost audio levels, has there been any impact on the operation of the rear wiper after reconnecting the plug to hardtop? Seems to me shorting out an electrical component would have some negative affects.|

It may just as likely be two separate things -- a default level of gain and how much gain is applied in a speed sensing increase, the latter is usually adjustable through the stereo.

That's why I replaced EVERYTHING. Now I get tickets for jamming "too loud". I told the officer that I couldn't hear &(*% because I was driving on the freeway and thus it didn't sound loud to me. Got a fix it ticket anyways, it was only at 1/2 volume lol.
