Jerry Bransford Check the wiring and plug that their computer plugs into, maybe the previous owner cut the wiring or screwed with it. The plug that the smog station computer's connects to is located on the lower edge of the instrument panel under the dash, a few inches away from the very left-hand edge.

Computer issues

I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl manual that I bought from Missouri and I am trying to get it registerd in California. I took it to a smog station and they said My computer (ECM) in the jeep wouldnt communicate with the shops smog check computer. It was a test only station so couldnt get any other info. The jeep didnt fail the test but it couldnt start it either. I am a newb on this forum so any helpfull hints to get this Jeep going would be great.

1 Can this be fixed?
2 The jeep is running great.
3 Is it expensive to fix this issue?
4 Has anyone had a similar problem?
5 Any recomendations in the Los angeles area to get it fixed?

Thanks
