JKralph I have a Warn M8000 (I wasn't crazy about the VR series, but I wanted a Warn, so the M8000 was what I could afford), and I agree with 1jeeplvr and fuzzyjk: don't forget the snatch block

cphilip Why is it I smile every time someone says "snatch block"?

must be something about my generation or some such...

This question sparks a never ending debate. Bottom line is do some research, check out some of the winch shootouts, check some prices, then make a decision. I personally got my Harbor Freight 12k winch for under $300. Im not saying to go out and get one if you plan on using it really often but for my uses, it does its job. I have used it to remove 3 trees and pulled myself out of a few bad spots and dont have 1 complaint.

x2 lol. I put the 12k on so I will never have to wonder if there is enough power to yank me out of a sticky situation.

Winch

what type of criteria do you use to select a winch for the Wrangler? How do you decide how much power you need to have?
