If you're buying a TJ, look for one with a D44 rear axle instead of the crappy D35.
If you're buying a YJ, look for one with round headlights and coil springs, because all YJ's came from the factory with the crappy D35.

|GoldenSahara00||There no 96 year jeeps. Just production dates. As far as I know.|

|felix225||I have a TJ and I like the overall looks of the TJ over the YJ..but if I was in the market right now I would look for a LJ..|

They have a 96 TJ?

as for which one.. go drive both and see which you like. TJ is more driver friendly.. a YJ is more rustic.

|BigThunder||I have a 94 YJ and a 06 LJ Rubicon. I like them both very much. I think of the YJ as my dirt pig, where the Rubi is a more comfortable ride, yet fully, if not more capable off road than the YJ. If you maintain them, either will last you for as long as you want. My one suggestion ~ don't buy with potential re-sale in mind. Buy it, build it, enjoy it and call it your own.|

I had a 95 YJ and now have an 04 TJ. Loved they YJ. Really love the TJ.

Cj!! Oh wait. I drive a Tj. Namely because the powers that be told me I needed airbags.
Only 96 yj's have airbags and I haven't found one

Based on which tech section you post this question you will get a majority of the biast twoards the model that tech section covers..
Posted in the general offroad section you would get opinions from everyone and not just mostly TJ/LJ owners

|wranglerTX||Go for the TJ, when I was looking for a jeep, I saw a couple of yjs and must say No regrets. IMO TJ is way better.|

|GoldenSahara00||As long as he's not looking at a jk right? yjs are cheaper and easier to mod, but older and typical issues you find come with that. However you can find a clean yj cheaper than a clean Tj. Leafs mean no track bars and sway bars aren't needed. However some people like the ride of coils vs leafs. Whatever. Both are solid choices.|

A YJ is a real Jeep with leaf springs and square headlights. The TJ is the next generation with coil springs, and a much more plastic interior.
Really going to come down to what you want to do wit hthe rig. Lots of mods for the leaf springed YJ. Plenty of mods for the TJ as well.

Buying a TJ Or YJ
I was thinking about buying either a TJ or YJ. I just wanted to know if they're things in specific to look out for when looking into buying one of these jeeps, maybe they have little quirks like other cars do or they're known to have specific problems that you would want to steer clear of. I don't know anything about these jeeps so any and all information would be helpful thank you!
