|BLK00TJ||Sounds like a typical nv3500 tranny. Mine's done that since I bought it in '00.|

|robbiecc||had a noise i swore was the TOB. would be there at idle and at times when shifting(usually at higher rpm's-when depressed the cluth for just a second) turned out to be a heat sheild on the exhaust barely hanging on. i guess at certain rpm's the vibration was just right to get it to making noise. ripped it off had haven;t heard it since.|

If the noise is there with the clutch pedal not pushed in , it is NOT the throwout bearing, as it only engages and causes issues when the pedal is pushed in, releasing the clutch.
The noise you are hearing is an input shaft noise, and it is a fairly common issue. I have an 06 TJ with the 6 speed and is rattles pretty bad in neutral also, but I can push the pedal in and it goes away. Its just the nature of the beast as I have tried various combinations of fluids to get rid of it. Its a jeep thing..

|BUSHKILLJEEP||I was reading that, Only reason I ask is I have dealer warranty left and figured I would get it looked at, my luck when my warranty is up, is when it will brake lol|

|JustinCHorst||That noise is not that uncommon and it is def not always a throwout ...these transmissions are fairly noisy and if you do some investigation you will find that most people have this issue to some extent. In fact some people have replaced the throwout only to find that it did not fix the problem....shes noisy by nature|
