|Triple88a||the last time i filled up i got like 16.3 mpg however that is with lots of idling and hard driving. i installed the electric fan when my odometer was reading about 210. Currently my tank is about at the 3/4ths full mark and my odo reads in the mid 80s...all city driving and since my job is 10 minutes away, i start it up, drive 2-3 miles and stop it, start it drive 2-3 miles and stop it.. etc|

tripp what are you getting in mpg with the new spedo gear..
for me cons are just gas... nothing else.. because i would like to drive it more than my civic..
but i dont see myself getting rid of it.. not yet at least..
its gives me a feeling i can go anywhere.. and prepare to do anyting.. even in an emergency situations.. i sound like a jeep commercial.. hahah
I dont really mind the noise and IMO its no bmw but it is comfortable to me, even more than my civic..

Its a jeep and everyone loves riding in it with the top down.
Fun to take off road if that's your thing.
Only thing like it on the road, and you will get waves from fellow jeepers.
My I6 is sluggish on the interstate, especially uphill.
I get 17-19 mpg, but then again I don't care.
Storage sucks if you want more than 1 passenger.
Fender flares FADE!
There are so many upgrades/customizations you won't know where to start and will be overwhelmed with the $16.86 you have to spend after you do get an upgrade.
They are kinda noisy on interstate, but that is expected because of the tops and the shape of the front.
Overall, I'd recommend it, but be prepared to toss out most creature comforts like quite ride, ultra smooth ride, storage space. The 97-99 are better than the old ones for everyday driving and interstate, at least in my experience.

The other day i made some food on aluminum foil in 550 degree oven and took it out without anything (bare hands) it felt cold to the touch. Freaked me out as i've never taken stuff out of the oven without gloves on. perhaps a thick layer of aluminum sheet metal might help with heat? Sort of like the heat shields over the cat and muffler but around the tranny to lower cab temps? Just thinking out loud here.

I've had 4 over my Jeep history. A 97 with the 2.5L, an XJ with the V8, a CJ7 with a 304, and the newest one to me an 01 with the i6. Out of all of them, having driven both the 4 banger and the 6, I'd say the 6 is my favorite. I had a 3" lift with 33X12.50's on the 2.5L and needless to say you needed a stong wind to go 70MPH downhill but it wheeled great! The i6 has the power I was looking for though, and so far I haven't had to replace an engine like I did with the 2.5L. Whatever you go with though you'll love it! It's a Jeep! My Captain is even getting the "Jeep Envy"! You just can't get past that feeling when you drop the top, put on some good tunes, and ride! Like they said... Don't forget to wave !

|brownie65||I would say about everything has been covered. I have only owned mine for a couple of months but love it. Looked for a long time before finally finding one I wanted in the price range I had set. Some have said they are not good for interstate driving. I disagree with this. I like driving mine on the interstate. Have run 70 -75 mph but usually just cruise 55-60 with the top down & enjoy it. Mine is stock & drives/rides great. Sure it depends how it is setup, lift, shocks, tires, etc. Also happy with my gas mileage, get between 18-20+. Kids & wife love it as much as me. That can also be a con, the wife is always wanting to take it. You do need to invest in a Tuffy console or something like it. Nice to be able to take stereo head unit off & lock up. Mine has what is called a trunk also. I like it because a few things can be put in there & locked up. Some people told me I wouldn't like one because they have no room & a few other things but I was really wanting one. My opinion is that they have plenty of room for the driver / paasenger. I have plenty of leg room. Yes there is not alot of room in the back. I have 3 kids , 2 of them can go with us at a time. The room issue is something you know about before buying one so that shouldn't be a issue. I would like to get a unlimited &/or a 4 door one someday. Haven't been in one but thinking they would have more passenger leg space,etc. Shop around. Ebay & Kelly Blue Book are great places to look. I searched them & the local ad finders for a few months before getting what I wanted. Well worth the wait. I ended up making a 4 hour round trip to get mine. Was a enjoyable/fun ride home for myself & my daughter, my boys & wife had to follow us in our other vehicle so it wasn't near as enjoyable for them, lol. My whole family couldn't be happier with our jeep. Buy one & have fun.|

New here, question about spray in liner
Hey all, I'm new here. I'm from Tennessee and drive a 04 TJ Wrangler, silver with some bling on it not much tho. I am wondering how many people here have did the spray in liner to their jeep. My biggest question is can you still put your carpet in over it? I was thinking of doing it myself, using Herculiner. I would appreciate any help and opinions.

PRO's - Very well built and easy to work on. Great opportunity to exlore the outdoors with your kids (if you have them).
Con's - The wife starts to borrow my Jeep more often now. The more you push yourself into the challenges that the trails offer, the more you have to pony up the cash for upgrades.

Can anyone back up that comment because mine is just fine.
I bought my 2000 Sport w/I-6 and A/T with 73,000 on it. The trans. slipped a bit from 2nd to 3rd, so I had it flushed and the bands adjusted. It's still doing ok w/95,000. Having driven both a 3-speed and the A/T offroad, the automatic is a bit easier, especially on hills and in the rockpiles. I wouldn't turn down a sweet Jeep with an automatic...it's really all about personal preference though. BTW, I have started to budget for a tranny rebuild next summer, just in case.

pros:easy to accessorize, parts are everywhere and cheap, multi-purpose vehicle, the inline 6 is the most reliable motor i know. looks badass when setup right
Consoesnt have the wheelbase to back the motor up for towing, gets addictive and makes you spend all your money,

My 98 is mostly stock with 31 A/T's. I just drove 18 hours highway few weeks back and I didn't start to hurt till about 15 hours of driving so it's not that bad on the highway with A/T's.

Pros: Every one has already said it!
Cons: I have 2 kids, after car seats not much room left.
I would love a soft top in the warmer months because the top is too heavy/awkward to handle by myself. Hard top rocks in the cold though.
Mine has the 2.5 with a 5 speed and gets 17-19 MPG But I don't really consider that a con because my last vehicle was a Hemi Quad Cab 4x4 1500 Ram 11-12 MPG. Next time I'm going I-6. The motors are tough as nails and last forever with maintenance. My 97 2.5 has 189K and runs like a top.

problems w/ auto trans?
and its mostly a daily driver but i will be doing some off roading no crazy crawling or anything like that just your basic screwing around easy trails and what not at least for now
