NHTSA defect investigation: Wrangler fires
IF you would like to read about the NHTSA defect investigation into Wrangler fires, go to the NHTSA website and search for defect investigation #PE12009. It specifically identifies the 2010 model year as the subject year, but includes all model years from 2007-2012 as peer years, meaning they want info on those years as well. The investigation also refers to safety recall # 09V436 which recalled all 07-08 Wranglers w/auto trans due to potential fires due to elevated trans oil temps. This recall (Chrysler recall#J30) reflashed the ecm to add a "hotoil" message and chime to warn the driver when the trans oil temp gets high. If you read the defect notification, the pertinent info is all on the first page, the rest is instructions to Chrysler on reporting, most of which is boilerplate.
