WaterDR Everyone has their own opinions. Personally, I think body lifts look goofy and I just don't see the point of putting hockey pucks to lift stock springs and stick with stock shocks.

Don't cut corners. Get decent after market springs, keep the lift, 2.5 inches or less if you want to stick to a reasonable budget, get the correct shocks and don't look back.

For a lousy 300 to 350 bucks you can get a complete 2" BDS kit which includes springs and shocks. The springs are WAY better than stock. I netted 2.5" inches with their 2" inch kit. I did relocate my rear track bar, but that is a personal preference. Higher you go, and depending on tire width, the more the need to correct the rear track.

Jeepsr4me You can buy Rough country straight from them, no middle man. And he gives discount for being a Jeep forum member. If you Lot of good things said about this new kit they have. even video on Youtube of it. I never even seen it.

Jerry Bransford Yes it would be bad to install a tall body lift, espeically (!) 3" body lifts... avoid tall body lifts like that. I never recommend any body lift taller than 1". Besides, installing a tall body lift causes installation problems like you wouldn't believe... you have to lengthen fuel filler hoses, bend the transmission shifter, install a transfer case lever leveling mechanism, etc.

stswartz would it be bad to have a bigger body lift then? say 3" a total of 5 inch lift?

Jerry Bransford A suspension lift lifts the Jeep up off the axles via either taller springs or spacers placed on top of the springs. A suspension lift lifts everything except the axles.

A body lift lifts only the body itself up off the frame via spacers placed between the frame and body. Body lift spacers go on the body mounts. So a body lift doesn't change any of the drivetrain angles like the driveshaft angles which causes vibrations like a suspension lift does.

Not all that noticeable. 3" is where it really gets noticeable. BUT... you can go with a 2" suspension lift which is easy and then add an inexpensive easily installed 1" body lift like from Performance Accessories. You get 3" of lift with that combination but without the added vibrations a 3" suspension lift causes.

Yes but the taller the lift, the more drivetrain vibrations it will cause and the more $$$ it costs to get rid of those vibrations.

And you can't just live with the vibrations, they will eventually start damaging things like the u-joints, bearings, and/or seals.

What height you go with will have a direct impact on how much $$$ it will cost to get everything working and vibration-free.

Jerry Bransford I would just get a Skyjacker Poly TJ20 spacer kit and Skyjacker Hydro shocks. Be aware that when you get to 3.5" of suspension lift height, it's more of a job to get rid of the vibrations such a tall lift causes.

If you have the $$$, it's not difficult to get rid of the vibrations that tall of a lift causes but your first post indicated yoiu were looking for a very basic inexpensive 2" height as indicated by the "BB" term which indicates a Budget Boost.

Jerry Bransford Be prepared for a rough ride with Rough Country "Performance 2.2" shocks that get a lot of complaints for how stiff they are. For an inexpensive kit, I'd probably go with a Skyjacker kit with their Hydro shocks. Both are about the same quality but the Skyjacker Hydro shocks sure ride a lot better than the RC 2.2 shocks do.

stswartz i think i'm gonna go with a whole kit then.. you guys are telling me exactly what i need!

i was thinkin about the Rough Country suspension lift here : Rough Country 3.25" Jeep Suspension Lift Kit, With Performance 2.2 Shocks for 6 Cylinder Engine RC-P642

does that have everything i need? or will i have to buy any other parts? also could i add bigger spacers to give it a bigger lift?

Jerry Bransford You can actually get away with nothing more than 2" spacers on top of your coil springs if you just want a little more height. Longer shocks are nice to have but they are not absolutely positively necessary for just driving around.

You MAY get a little drivetrain vibration after lifting the Jeep 2", then again you may not. If you do get a little vibration, that is easily fixed by dropping the transfer case skidplate a half-inch or so with spacers which is easy to do. We can tell you how to do that in detail if you end up with any vibrations.

Is installing 2" spacers by themselves an optimal way to go? No, but it can be done without really creating a problem. You may notice the axles are a tad off to the side after installing the 2" spacers but that won't really cause a problem either with that small amount of lift.

KBR97 If you are unsure of what parts are needed I would suggest buying them in a kit from a reputable company. They will give you the parts you need. Instead of trying to piece it together and possibly forgetting something or having incompatible parts.

Yes piecing thing together and doing your own research and work can be fun. But for someone inexperienced it can quickly become a nightmare, with a useless vehicle up on a jackstands in a driveway.

Jeepsr4me There is a guy on Ebay that sales the BB spacers for 49 shipped. Then go to Rough country and get the 15 buck rear BS extensions. Go to any local parts place and get the shocks you want, most have lift versions. Or find someone selling JK new take offs and get those shocks. they are about 2-3 inches longer than stock. And with a little work go right on. I would say the springs also from a JK but with the various models and Chyslers building of them you never know what you get. I got some that gave me almost 3 inches of lift. I am cheap........ And been around awhile so I can get creative. If you want the ebay name of guy here it is. Or search for this item number.

04tjgirl I am not too terribly experienced myself....other guys on here will be able to be a greater help but I do have a BB lift on my 04 TJ. I purchased a full kit with 4 skyjacker hydro shocks ( which I have heard good things about), 2.25 inch spacers, and the bump stop extensions. My jeep was due for new shocks anyway and it was better to go ahead and get the whole package. Of course I did end up buying wheels and tires too but that's totally up to you. I put 31's on mine because I didnt want to have to do any regearing and still wanting halfway decent gas mileage since I still wanted to drive my jeep on vacations and such. I think my whole BB kit was $229 from a 4wd parts place on here....I can't recall the name right now. To answer your question...no, you don't need new coils, I hear bump stop extensions are a good thing from what I have read, and I'm not sure about the shocks....you may be able to use your stock ones but I would ask the gurus on here first. That's why the whole kit was better for me. Anyway, best of luck...hope this helped!

Ok i'm new here so dont rag on me too hard also i dont know much about working on my jeep at all. havent really had any experience. I have a Wrangler tj (2005) that i've had since december of 2010. I only drove it for about 6 months of that time because i've been deployed since june of last year so i havent really had a chance to do anything to it.

ok i was planning on just putting some coil spacers that sit above the coils and call it good but i'm not sure if i need other parts like do i need new coils or shocks or bump stop extensions?? (I don't really know what bump stop extensions are but i've been reading alot and i see that alot)

Sorry i'm such a noob lol thank you very much if you can help
