|H2RESQ||My husband and I did rent a ball joint press from Auto Zone but the last person killed the threads! We spent more time trying to fix the tool then the ball joints!|

That sux. I am a Manager at Auto Zone in Upstate NY and we have about 5 or 6 of each type of puller and press, breaker bars and anything else you could ever need. We RARLEY are out of one type of tool and if we do run out, we take it off the shelf and add it to the pile =)
Gotta keep the customers happy =)

Why do none of the vato zones around here have this stuff when I need it? I swear Tucson is set on doing things the ghetto way. Really - after you go through the tool for sale section and go to the rent-a-tool tool mat on the counter, out of all the tools it lists, they'll have maybe a spark plug socket.... with stripped threads.... I don't know how threads would be involved in a spark plug socket, but they'd be stripped

Auto Zone or any good auto parts store will have this tool for rent. My local Auto Zone rents them for free. Makes life simple for ball joint work.

I have not changed the balljoints on my jeep - but I have on others. It's a simple process, just involes a lot of grunting and cursing. Your complex toolset will consist of:
a) A really big friggin hammer
b) an even bigger friggin hammer.
Just pull out the knuckles, remove the retaining c-clips if present, and beat the snot out of them until they finally pop out. For driving the new ones in, clean out the races, and tap them back in place using a smaller bigger friggin hammer, and of course a brass driving rod.
