NewYJOwner Since you admit you really don't know what to look for, I suggest you take it to a mechanic and have them go over it with you. Ask friends, family and others for their mechanic suggestions.
If you tell them you are thinking of buying it but want to know if there are problems that need to be taken care of as far as safety and mechanical work, a good mechanic will give you an idea of how much you would have to spend on repairs, and that can be negotiated into the price.

denisbaldwin Welcome! As for the rusty bolts, if they are badly rusted, replace them and then POR15 (or similarly coat) over the area to stop further rust.

Beastmaster No problem,

"Trail Rated" just means it's 4X4 (yes, they make 2wd Jeeps ).
As for the rusty bolts, there's rust and then there's rust. It's an off road vehicle so some rust comes with the territory. Check to make sure the rusted bolts are not just a symptom of a larger problem (a leak somewhere else) depending on what bolts you are talking about.

totally new jeep chick here! needs some help

okay guys, so, lastnight a friend of mine brought home a 2008 unlimited sahara ( trail rated if that means anything haha ) for me to try, i looked it over, the body is great, aside from a few normal wear & tear things, but nothing big. it has 63,000 km on it. i did notice some bolts were rusted, whats up w/ that? i mean its def not turning me away, i absolutely love this, but i was just wondering if anyone has any advice they could offer me, i would totally appreciate it

thanks!!
