Is there any noise coming from the diff? If not, it is probably not the diff. Ring and pinion is engaged and turns the same speed turning as going straight, the spider gears would be turning more when the Jeep is making turns.
Simple way to test the clutch, put on parking brake all the way and see if you can bog the engine as you let the clutch out in gear. If the clutch is slipping, you won't be able to.

|Jeme||Thanks, so I have a friend who has had Jeeps for years, we did a few things, and we think it is the ring and pinion gear, it really acts up when making sharp turns? Remember the slipping is only when in gear with no interaction with the clutch.|

|jkp||I would guess damaged clutch disc or pressure plate.|

|Jeme||Thanks JKP, could it be a clutch plate, the clutch engages, the slippage is when it is in gear and driving down the road. Needless to say I am very concerned. Thanks again.|

|jkp||If it is slipping, something happened to the clutch. The only things inside a manual trans are gears and shafts. On the 6 speed, 5th gear is straight through, the input shaft and output shaft are locked together with no gears involved.|

2005 Wrangler Transmission Issues
Newvie, first post, I did use search and did not see anything specific to my issue.
Just purchased 2005 Wrangler, has 6 sped with 92K miles. I have had the Jeep for a week so this is really bumming me out
Long story short, was teaching son to drive a stick and hep poped the clutch a few times, but one time there was a very loud pop or crunch. Prior to this the transmission worked fine. The issue above happened in 1 st gear, the transmission now slips in all gears, or at least to 4th, I was very gentle in driving it home and did not go higher than 4th gear.
Any ideas? Let's say worst case, how much would a remanfactured transmission cost me installed? Is remanfuctured a good idea? Are these 6 speed transmission common or easy to find and repair?
Obviously having only owned this Jeep a year I am very very concerned.
Do I take it to a transmission shop or the dealership? Thanks again.
Thanks in advance for your help
