1997tj77 I also have a '97 2.5 5-speed, it had a no start problem. No power going to the coil harness plug. I replaced crankshaft positioning sensor, no help. A guy from work stopped by and within 15 minutes found a corroded wire coming out of the fender fuse box, specifically the ASD relay (automatic shut down). He spliced in a new piece of wire and that fixed the problem, it actually runs better. He had to remove the battery to get to it (wiring harness). The wire causing the problem was red w/white stripe, I'm not saying this is your Jeep's problem, but I hope it helps you out now or down the road.

Carsandcigars Just had the same problem. changed plugs and forward o2 sensor and used lucas fuel treatment. None helped went to replace crank sensor and found it with one bolt missing and the other almost completely out. Temp fix was to tighten the one bolt till get a replacement for other bolt. engine then ran normal

RUBI 4 MY MRS P0320 No Crank Reference Signal at PCM No reference signal (crankshaft position sensor) detected during engine cranking.

P0320 (M) No RPM Signal to PCM (Crankshaft Position Sensor Signal to JTEC) A CKP signal has not been detected at the PCM

P1391 (M) Intermittent Loss of CMP or CKP Loss of the Cam Position Sensor or Crank Position sensor has occurred.

Probably the crank sensor (CKP). The cam sensor (CMP) is in the distributor. Follow the wires.

I'l let ya know if i find what wrong... but I can't really fix it right now due to lack of funds so might be a while.
Flat spots through the throttle range are often a bad TPS. That can affect the idle too.

dmitchell28 Well I just recieved word from my wife that I will have to wait til this weekend to buy the sensor, so hopefully before now and then, I get some more reassurance that I am onto the right path. My mechanic pretty much told me its a guessing game at this point, so I dont want to just keep throwing money at it, for my sake..LOL I have done alot of research on the net and everything seems to point towards the Crankshaft sensor is going bad. Hopefully this goes well and its all that is wrong with it.

97 tj help...P0320, P1391

Okay, two days ago on my way home, old blue started running weird, missfiring, sputtering, dieing for two-three seconds and coning back. I pulled over and cleaned out the throttle body with cleaner and put some lucus gas treatment. Barely made it home, check engine light came on and pulled the two codes above and an idle problem code..which it had started idling around two when it happened. I thought maybe it needed a tune up, so replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and button. It ran fine that morning, but got into it around 4 today and same thing all over again and light came on. So I am replacing the crankshaft sensor in the morning in hopes it fixes. But have read it could be the camshaft sensor, but have no ideal where it even is. I have a 97 4cyl 5sp. Any advice from you guys is muchly appreciated.
