rbraden1970 I have a 2003 with a 2"BB lift, 1.25" Body Lift, 32" tires and american racing wheels. I went this route so that I didn't have to deal with a transfer case drop or an SYE and drive it every day.

somis I have 16" AEVs. Great stuff. Expensive but great. They are the originals from 1998 never had any chipping cracking problems.

Rayko I've been running ProComps for quite a while now and I have no complaints. If you abuse anything, it'll fail.

gjeppesen I'm all for buying American. What wheel manufacturer's should I stick with? Any comparable to pro comp 7069?

There are like a million threads on this. The first question you should be asking is what are you trying to do? Is this a dd that sees a mud puddle once a year? Something you will take offroad every weekend? A mix of the two? There are many ways to run 33s but it really depends on what your goals are.

somis When your buying a tooth brush it doesnt really matter what brand or where its from. But when you're purchasing car parts that you depend on, buy American. 99% of the time American stuff is reliable

dmblair Just had a conversation with a guy today on this subject. We got on the rim/tire subject and he got some pro comps rims less than a year ago. He told me to stay as far away from them as possible. Being here in the salt belt they didn't even last one winter...a mild one at that! The corrosion on them was insane. I couldn't believe it. That really turned me off in a second.

I have 33s with stock gears and my jeep does just fine. It is a 5spd though and I am upgrading to 4.88 with 8.8 ford rear end.

If your saying he slammed his wheel into a stationary rock going 20 mph... I'm pretty sure most aluminum alloy wheels would lose that battle! There is nothing wrong with pro comp wheels. I have ran them in the past with no issues.

You said your wrangler is stock? I know there is a thread in here going over the variations of gearing for 4cyl manual or auto, 6cyl manual or auto. Just something to think about before jumping to 33"s. Your rig could become a serious slug if you jump to that tire size without the proper gearing in your axles.

gjeppesen Ok so looks like OME lift, 33" tires, 16" rims, 1" MML, 1" BL, and OME TC drop. Am I forgetting anything?

gjeppesen I'm only looking at PC wheels. A ton of people have them and haven't seen one complaint.

somis Not trying to bash anyones stuff, just trying to save people from spending money on Chinese equipment. Many companies are outsourcing these days so its common to come across companies that are actually manufactured in China and assembled here. Shocks, thats no big deal, im sure they work just fine. I have just heard terrible things and have had buddies that purchased the stuff and it failed on them very quickly. BUY NICE OR BUY TWICE.

BrianJC Mind if I ask - to enlighten both me and thread owner - what are the issues with Pro Comp and SkyJacker? (I inherited SkyJacker lifted TJ, or at least it has the SJ Hydro 7000 shocks)

somis Pro Comp and SkyJacker is junk stay away from anything from them. I have a Rancho lift (but purchased it in 1997 when it was still the original owners) and have never had any complaints. Ive heard good things about OME and Zone. Bilstein 5100 shocks are a good way to go also.

I have 16" AEV wheels and they work great. Yes they are a little skinnier tire width but it makes it cut through the mud great. Its all preference there.

Knowledge97 Another thing to consider is the loss of performance you will notice going from stock tires to 33's.

A good reason is "availability". I had 32's once and loved them. But I got a slice in one and the local tire dealer had to order in a new 32. They had tons of 31's and 33's in stock.

In many cases the reason why you are seeing bigger diameter rims on vehicles is because of bigger braking components (drums/calipers) that need the clearance. Personally I wouldn't go to a larger diameter rim unless I had to. Stick with 15"s if you can....but if you like the looks of a bigger rim, thats your call.

I agree with 15" rims. Also more tire=more sidewall=better offload.

Need Opinions for Newbie

I have a completely stock 2003 Wrangler. Would like to add a small lift, larger tires, new wheels, etc.

I do a lot of highway driving but want something for non-difficult trails.

Looking at 16" Pro Comp 7069 wheels and Cooper S/T Maxx tires. My dilemma is 32" or 33" tires and what would I have to do and do it right. I was considering OME 2" lift but need opinions.
