this is my second jeep, the first being a cherokee sport with the same 4.0L engine, all i will say is that the 4.0L engine is the best ever!! my old jeep had about 130,000 miles and worked like a champ... that jeep never needed anything except for a routine oil change, and a rad flush...

4Jeepn If taken care of the 4.0L can reach the mid 200k range with out major issues. The 5 spd should be the nv3550 which is a good tranny, makes some noise, but a good unit. For an idea of replacement price check out car-parts.com. Like any used car, see if it has a service history. How does the underside look? etc etc.

nicolas-eric the D30....is a front axle.
itīs nearly as strong as the rubicon TJ front D44, only the R&P geras are smaller.

White93ARB So the D30 is an oval and the D44 is more of a hexagon or whichever 'gon it is...?

nicolas-eric welcome to the forum.

i would go with an auto tranny. off the road itīs much better.
92.000 mls isn't very much vor a 4.0L i6 engine if itīs maintained right.

White93ARB Welcome to the board.

Since your looking at the TJs, if you plan to put bigger tires on it, make sure you get one with the Dana 44 rear axle. I'm not exactly sure on the visual differences, but someone will definately know on here. 92,000 miles doesn't sound realllly bad, but it is pretty high on an 01. My 93 has 88k, but thats relatively low for its age. If you keep up on general maintenence the Jeep will usually treat you right. Sorry I can't help out more.

I want to buy my first Jeep Wrangler

I'm new on this forum and looking for some advice . I test drove a 2001 Jeep Wrangler, manual, 6cyl,4wd with 92,000 miles on it. The dealership wants $9,900 for it. I'm worried about the high mileage. The test drive seemed fine ,but Im worried if I buy it it might break down because of the mileage. At what mileage do these Wranglers tend to start having problems at. How else can I determine if it is a good buy or not? If I had to replace the engine one day or the transmission how much would it cost? Thanks
