|RUBI 4 MY MRS||That fuse has a few circuits on it. It only feeds the coil in the A/C relay not the compressor so the short or overload is not the compressor. On that fuse you also have two things that your jeep may or may not have. They are the ABS relay, the ABS controller (ABS only), & the rear window defogger relay (hardtop only). Then you have the back up lights. That is where the short most likely is. Try putting a new fuse in & with the key on but not the A/C, check the fuse. If good put it in reverse & see if the BU lights come on. If not, check the fuse. If it is blown then there is a short in the BU circuit from the back up switch in the trans back to the tail lights.|

Hammond_Egger - Thanks for the reply. I hadn't even thought of the clutch going out. It's not making any kind of noise or anything, but boy that compressor is getting hot.
Just out of curiosity, could low "freon" cause a hot compressor?

|Hammond_Egger||Sounds to me that your compressor clutch is bad. When it the clutch (big electro-magnet) starts to go, it slips..draws a higher current..and creates heat!|

A/C Fuse Popping
I've a '99 with the 2.5L 4 banger. The fan blows just fine (after replacing the heater-a/c control panel). I can turn on the a/c and it blows good and cold for at least 15 minutes when I'm sitting at idle in the driveway (I turned it off after that). However, if I start driving around, fuse #7 (misleadingly labeled "back up lp ABS", and rated for 10 amps) goes out in about 5 minutes, and the air stops blowing cold (though the fan keeps going). From what I understand, that's the circuit that runs to the a/c compressor relay to tell it to send juice to the compressor.
Where should I start the troubleshooting process? Something to note is that the a/c compressor is getting REALLY hot during operation. I'm not sure if that's normal.
